Hi, just about to get a medium weight turnout, I just wondered if anyone had any stong views on whats hot and whats not.....I would love one of those duo rugs but think they are really expensive. I don't mind spending more but need to be sure there really is a difference in the quality.

Thanks ever so.......

I love Horseware rugs; for good value try an Amigo.. really you pay your money & take your choice. The more expensive rugs tend to be slightly tougher i.e a higher denier which is the thickness of the outside of the rug & hopefully means it will last longer. If your horse is a bit of a rug ripper buy the highest denier you can afford.

Its down to personal preference but I like: Horseware (Rambo if I can afford it, if not Amigo) then Weatherbeeta (like those big tail flaps on their turnout rugs, then Premier Equine. Fal & Bucas are ultra lovely but too ££££ for me!

Weatherbeeta medium weights are amazing the best ive ever had after 4 years of rough horse play biting etc the rugs are still waterproof and not ripped also the tail provides extra wind shelter :P

If you can afford it, a Rambo Supreme medium weight rug! It's got the detatchable hood.

With the full nylon lining they never rub and produce a great shine. They wash up well, and mine are still going 3 years on with almost constant abuse. I've a light weigh version too, which I use in the summer. Both are fab. Ebay sometimes have 'bargains' to be had on them. It's where I bought mine from.

I like Mark Todd rugs - I have a gelding who is very rough with his rugs but Mark Todd rugs seem to be able to stand up to most of his shannanigans!

Personally I really like Horseware Amigo. They last forever and are good value for money.

New horse has come with a Fal-Pro though...and it's lovely! The nicest fit rug I've had, including my Mark Todd which I'm not so keen on. For value for money, Rhinegold are pretty good. Seem to come up big though - my lad is 17.1hh and usually in a good 6ft9, but 6ft6 is fine for him in Rhinegold.

DONT buy a MASTA they dont fit and the material is poor quality and they are also not at all deep at the sides. I have got a new one (and wished I hadn't) I have had to have darts put in the neck because it is cut all wrong and slipped behind my mare's withers when she moved about in it. Weatherbeater are excellent and not over priced.

Its got to be Weatherbeeta for me. I've got some Premier Equine but personally think the Weatherbeeta is better made. Much prefer them.

I second avoiding a Masta rug. Bought one for my mare to wear as stud and two months on it's a write off. Loads and loads of small tears all across the outer material. Millions of them. Goodness knows what from, as there is no wire at the stud. Makes the rug completely useless in the rain and I've binned it. I've since put the mare back into her 3 year old Rambo Supreme and as per it is 100% fine. Proves to me the Masta just isn't any good. A complete waste of money.

I'd also second the Rhinegold rugs coming up big in size BTW! Nice rugs for the money.

Rambo all the way. Although Premier Equine have some excellent reductions at the moment and I'm having to sit on my hands to stop myself buying more rugs I don't need.

I have a MW Weatherbeeta rug which is fab - good price and great quality.

I had Mastas for my old mare as they fit her quite well, but rub my gelding and just generally don't fit him. Think they are crap and won't be buying them again.

Can't beat Rambo's in my opinion. They're definitely worth the extra money and like rubber matting you reap the benefits over the years as they last so long. They have no leg straps which I like and they never move an inch! They're tough rugs, hard to rip and fit brilliantly. I also like the leg arches, keep my boys legs nice and dry when raining. Amigo's are also good rugs, especially as they're much cheaper.

I have a weatherbeeta Landa combo MW on both of mine - come rain or shine they are fab. No rips/leaks or rubs from these and less than £50 on the Derby house website!! Spot on!!

i bought a rhino medium weight for my girl and was very pleased with it, it is a rhino plus so the neck cover velcro on and off which is very handy! i also have a fal bulldog which was more expensive but very pleased and seems to (touch wood) hold up very well!

Hi!
I couln't afford the rambo supreme at the moment and had to get a rug today....really sad about that as I know it will save me money in the long run.
Why couldn't he break his masta (he came with it) next week when I'd been paid LOL....

Anyway went to buy the amigo but was not in stcok anywhere local (could not leave him in again!) so I got
the fal pro chieftan with detachable neck for £110 in store, fits lovely, looks horrid, but now its covered in mud and I can't se it:-O
Thanks for all your help.xxxxx

horseware rugs are amazing! i like that they dont have the leg straps, they are very breathable and they never move an inch they are brilliant, well worth every penny...

masta rugs are terrible u may as well throw your money in the bin!
