The novice-ish husband has decided that he would quite like to go cubbing... Fair enough, we have suitable horse who he is capable of riding. However we have 1 small problem... Breeches.

He has always ridden in jeans and has so far flatly refused to wear breeches (I agree, hate them on men, I get giggles) to make matters worse he is slightly bow legged and self conscious about it and (coughs loudly) has a rather, erm, words fail me, prominent bump... So, can anybody help me with a potential wardrobe malfunction with wet clinging material and a man that thinks it is acceptable to hunt in jeans...

Why does he have to like horses??!!

The best way to avoid an unslightly bulge is tight supportive underwear. Also ensure jacket is long enough so bulge is covered. Many swear by the looser pleat fronted jodhs, but my OH prefers the snug fitting flat fronted ones as they are less restrictive in the saddle, it is sports clothing afterall, my OH also cycles so jodhs hold no fear after cycling tights!

My husband wears Tagg William Funnell breeches - very smart and nicely tailored to avoid bulge issues. Mark Todd do a similar pair but hubby found Tagg comfier.

I do wear compression shorts under the breeches. Primarily for the sciatica on cold mornings but there are secondary benefits.

Not sure if you have something along these lines available in the UK:

Polo denims

Does he not understand that the whole point of hobbies for men is the opportunity to wear truly ridiculous clothing? :D:D Us women get high heels, slimming underwear and thongs to wear - so guys need to invent essential clothing for their sports to keep up. Pretty sure jodhpurs were originally a male invention. ;)

You may get some suggestions from this thread - http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=557514&highlight=breeches

pics are optional!:D

ETA - Rugged breeches look fab

I may need to sit down after that ;) phew... I'm marching hubby straight down to saddlers if he'll turn into him!!!!! That is a nice view... But then I'm a pervert.

Thanks for replies guys, i've suggested the underwear but he is adamant he is staying pantless and showed him the pleated and rugged ones. ( Apparantely he likes 'them' to breathe ) ... I pointed out that if it's good enough for mark Todd then surely he'll be ok. The reply was who is mark Todd! I obviously haven't brought him up well enough. Really do give up!!! And I hope that there are no minors reading this thread!!! Bloody men.

*They* won't breathe very well if he sits on them and squashes them surely? There's not much room in breeches so if he gets squished into the wrong place won't everything be stuck there? Sorry I shouldn't think of these things but a pet hate of mine is some men's constant need to rearrange themselves and now I've got a picture in my head of someone trying to attempt it whilst riding a horse!

Of course we could all have the wrong end of the stick (Ooo...errr missus) and the OP's OH may be worried about the err...bulge and err...because of possibly the lack of sufficient errr....bulge. In which case maybe a pair of socks is the answer.;)

Nothing to add about Breeches except SeaJays looks great in them and I am seriously jealous that all of your OHs ride :(. Mine played the game when we were dating - going up in between jobs to poo pick my field, traipsing round local shows with me - now we are married he sees the horse about once every three months or so :(

But the 'bulge' is the best bit   :D

Don't forget that it needs to be sported by a sweaty huntsman, splashed with mud, holding out a glass of something alcoholic while looking at you with smouldering eyes......

Damn it, I need to get some balls (no pun intended) and hunt.

I am literally wetting myself here... Erm, I was going to say afraid to say its the opposite but, erm... Erm... I'm pleased to say its the opposite :D

Polo breeches, great suggestion... Would he get away with them hunting and do they come in any others colour than white??!!

Re comment about 'them' breathing... Yes he constantly re-arranges himself whilst riding but Apparantely it is comfier without suggested *coughs loudly again!* supportive underwear??!! I've ridden commando before and it ain't comfy and I haven't ( well last time I checked ) got a BULGE!!!!

He's too goddam awkward for words that man, why on earth he decided horses were for him I do not know.
