I have used straw, shavings, wood pellets and straw pellets in the past. Given the situation now what do people find the best bedding? All the mentioned have good and bad points but wood pellets are so expensive now Im not using them. Any thoughts?

I use mega spread shavings with a few scoops of wood pellets where they wee, they are only in for about 4 or 5 hours a day at the moment so hardly using any bedding and full muck out once a week.

In winter I tend to do the same but take the wet out twice a week so use about a bale of shavings a week occasionally need to top up.

My beds are really thick without mats yes the initial outlay is expensive but I keep them thick and find they stay really clean and white.

I've tried various other bedding and always go back to this set up.

I like deep litter, and at that point anything works. I have earth floors though so it rots down and we never have to dig it out. All the benefits and none of the hassle!

Straw is nice (and is the cheapest too) because they still have something to eat even when their hay is gone. Deep straw beds are a pain to find the droppings in though!
