Would the plastic traditional type be better, thinking of summer weather and ideally him being able to pant with it on rather than having to keep taking it off the whole time. The dog in question without going into detail needs to be muzzled in public places ..
 
I use a whippet muzzle on my JRT, it gives him loads of room to pant and bark and he can even drink through it.
 
The baskerville muzzles (plastic, basket type ones) are the ones we are advised to use, as the dog can still pant and drink with them on, plus there is no way of them biting you. The mikki muzzles (the black material ones that fit over the nose) aren't particularly good as a) the dog can still bite if it wants to and b) it can't pant or drink, so really can't be left on for any period.
