I have recently moved to a new yard and have been informed that the grass isnt fertilised are looked after to well in that department so im looking for a non heating balancer to give my heading into winter..help please as my boy is mainly fed on alfa a and some fibre pellets. My boy is 7 and 15hh cob x thanks :)

Blue chip worked wonders on my horse. Despite being quite pricey it last ages. Found it much better than topspec ect.

I'm using Saracens essential balancer & my boys full of shine. Am heating him up by adding some of their show pellets. Sisters good doer is on saracens shape-up. An pleased with both & reasonable price.

Top spec lite, no need to feed with anything else so unless your chap needs calories I would cut out all other feed, mine hunts off balancer and in winter Haylage... Nice and quick to feed too, just one mug twice a day.

I've used Topspec Lite in the past and had no issues with fizzyness. However, for the past couple of years I have used Pure Feeds balancer. I swapped to it because I was impressed with the breakdown of vitamins & minerals in it comparatively to some other brands of balancers. Its also convenient as you can order online (free delivery) and good on the wallet (particularly if you can order several bags at once & get a discount). Its been fed to everything from a 2yo growing 16.2hh WB (now 17.1hh at 4!), a pure TB, a chunky ISH, and a holsteiner x irish Tb. Its been fab for all of them and no fizzyness. I feed with a handful of hifi lite to hide their supplements better, however aside from supplement hiding the hifi is unnecessary and mine compete eventing essentially just off their balancer, and SJ/ hunt etc through winter off it too. However thats not to say all horses would be able to do that, they all have different nutritional needs and mine have good access to grazing all year round and adlib haylage in winter. However based on my experience balancer as a feed is sufficient for good doers! :).

Working within the equine feed trade I am very unimpressed with most balancers! The levels of goodness within most are just awful and are disgusting prices for the levels off goodness your getting. I wouldn't recommend or feed any bagged balancers from most feed companies but the only 2 products that I find give great levels of goodness are pro hoof from eBay and equimins advance complete which are both fab specs and really show up all the bagged balancers which are stupidly low in what you actually want but high in by products and crap
