Can anyone recommend a good non-slip saddlecloth, my saddle moves side to side slightly due to the shape of the horse (was EXTREMELY hard to fit! Just about to get a new saddle fitted to her as well but imagine this issue will remain). I currently use an Avacallo sticky gel pad which goes directly between the saddle and her back - doesn't look that comfy for her somehow. I tried one of those old limpet numnahs that I had lying about and that doesn't do much. I find the Avacallo isn't great for competing in (doesn't look nice and if she sweats, nothing protects the underside of the saddle). Is there such thing as a saddlecloth with a very grippy gel bit just under the seat part (but looks normal outwardly)?

My saddler recommends trying a big chammy leather , I have never tried it but it's a cheap enough thing to give a try .
And you can always wash the car if it does not work.

I asked this fairly recently and the Barnsby Grip was the one that was recommended by most people. I bought one and it has been amazing, made such a difference. While I was trying to find one the right size I was using an Avacallo pad and found my saddle still rolled around, with the Barnsby Grip pad it is solid as a rock. I could not recommend highly enough.

Try it with nothing between saddle and horse. If it still slips, not much will help except the new saddle. If it doesn't slip as badly then I'd recommend the Barnsby grip pad.

I have the same issue, due to horse confirmation & him having more strength on one side. Constantly schooling to correct weaker side however never tack up without an acavello gel pad, see me blog below, I reviewed the pad with gel however so impressed I own two more now that I haven't blogged about but I wouldn't use anything else. They also absorb shock too.

The issue shoudn't be the same with a wel; fitted saddle - a side to side pivot means the saddle is too wide or too curvy or has a pivot point in the middle. Slipping to one side can be caused by horse or rider asymmetry, but this issue is purely saddle related in my opinion. I do not like sticky pads, so would recommend holding off, and if your new saddle seems to need one, then consider searching out a different fitter. Someone on another forum has even had their horse injured by a grippy pad!

Agree with sbloom's comments but I believe that Valegro has a gel pad on his back with the saddle cloth over that and then another gel pad (the Acavallo one with sheepskin) between the cloth and the saddle.

Valegro's will not be to correct slippage but will be about concussion absorption. Personally I prefer sheepskin for that, and amazing isn't it, I can't believe you could actually feel the horse through two gel pads and a sheepskin though clearly it absolutely works for them! I wouldn't recommend this approach for wide, flat horses, it'd be like princess and the pea on a big rolly barrell!
