Best oil to feed??

I buy vegetable oil from the supermarket but you do have to introduce it very gradually to get them to eat it.
I do buy micronized linseed but it is pricey when you have 2 who need to gain condition. Linseed oil is quite strong tasting I think, you might have more success with vegetable oil.
 
I feed vegetable oil as well - just don't overdo it or you'll end up with an imbalance. If you are feeding lots of il, you will need to feed extra Vit C etc.
 
Vegetable oil from the supermarket. It will have been rectified, but my lad loves it as a topping for his balancer. I will never wet down feeds again, it's so easy.

have heard this too. Omega 3 is very bad for horses in the ratios its in in sunflower and other supermarket cooking oils.
 
Veg oil was recommended by my vet - looks like another foody thing that no-one can agree on (for horses or humans!!!)

Only a small amount though should be used - say up to half a cup (note cup not mug) once you've got your horse gradually used to it. My oldies get it when it is very cold as it gives a bit of extra energy without bulking up their feeds.

If you get an ownbrand version, it probably won't have been boosted with Omega3 that tends to get added to the more expensive versions to justify the heftier price and make it attractive to a certain kind of shopper!

Flaxseed oil is good, I give it 3x week to my welsh a for his coat. Mind you, both my ponies wolf everything put in front of them so I can't say whether a fussy eater would like it or not.
 
No expert but whenever we have given cod liver oil for a couple of weeks (approx 1/3 mug daily) or so their coats gleam - I'd like to think it's doing something for joints too but never can tell...!

Flax is linseed is it not? I use micronised linseed. My fussy one would eat in straight from my hand. He loves it

Sorry, off topic, but if you get it from Charnwood Milling it may be cheaper for you? I used half a bag a month feeding my TB a mug full in each feed - £28 a bag inc. delivery :)
 
I recently started giving my sec D mare 100ml of corn oil a day split over 2 feeds. Good because it is quite 'pure' but also studies have been done which show it has similar if not better results than gastroguard-I suspect she has ulcers hence trying her on the oil, alongside dengie healthy tummy but I think the afalfa in the chaff is what has turned her into a spooky idiot!
 
Depends what you are feeding it for.

Rice bran oil is best for weight keeping/gain followed by Soya Oil.
Linseed is best for skin/coat and has many other benefits
 
Was recommended by people on yard to mix with fast fibre to help keep an active gut and good coat and skin. I have now tried corn lol and she has gobbled it down!
