I have put my mare up for sale but the market doesn't appear to be great & I'm not that determined to sell tbh. Home is most important for her as she means a lot to me.

Reason I was selling is I have 2 rising 4 year olds to break & work a little & through the winter there is no way I can work full time & keep 3 horses in some sort of work.

I was therefore considering getting someone who can school/hack out my eventer whilst I'm working the youngsters. She is an angel but at the same time is a fit eventer & schooled to be sensitive so i don't want someone pressing the wrong buttons. Where would be best to advertise?

I would consider letting them take her out competing or xc schooling if I take 1 of the youngsters if they are the right person. I've seen a lot of people on fb but I'm worried i will get unsuitable people!

I've ridden for a couple of people and found them through 'Preloved'. Another one I look on is 'Equine Adverts' as there's an option for riders wanted. Local horsey facebook groups probably get the most views but as you've said you might attract the wrong kind of people and might have to trawl through a lot of messages! I'd advise just to be specific with what you're looking for in the rider and what you require them to do. Best of luck!

I'd suggest wherever you advertise, pay them (I.e someone who makes a living out of it) and ask for references. I didn't, and now my mare has a torn check ligament, and 6 months off work. Hope you find someone good, be very picky!!!

Finding people to ride who are actually competent and, even more difficult, actually have a realistic idea of their riding ability - is a nightmare. You kind of just have to be very specific, make sure you're super clear about what you need and what you don't need... And watch them riding multiple times before you let them get on with it. References are good but honestly even that can be misleading...

Get some interview questions ready, maybe look for previous horse owners / ex working students /students at local agricultural college / BHS riding or training centress /people who have given up horses to have kids and want to get back into it?

They wouldn't be riding without me there! Certainly not for a long time if at all :)

Yes ideally it would be someone who can't afford/doesn't have the time for their own but is a competent rider. She's a cracking horse & it's a good opportunity for someone just need to find the right person which I am fully aware will be hell haha

We are about. :) Most of the rides I've had have come through Preloved or from friend of a friend.
I'm still looking for a ride if you happen to be in Northampton area.

Someone who is capable of schooling effectively with lateral work etc
Someone who can actually influence the horses way of going positively rather than just walk, trot & canter etc

Shame you're so far away as she sounds like just the sort of horse I am looking for! (North London).

I have found my share horses mainly through word of mouth, but I have also used preloved, equine adverts, horsemart and facebook (regional pages).
No matter where you advertise you will always get lots of people that are unsuitable, you just have to sift through them :)
