I bought a box of 6 last time that's lasted ten years, so I'm out of touch with the best prices.

Any suggestions for where to buy a single Heller Legend or a Save Edge?

this is where I get rasps from. I think you can get just a single one from any of the suppliers. Haven't checked out the postage. SE on here are £31 so a big difference.

I have got them from my trimmer/farrier for free, they go through one a week or so and have to replace them as they aren’t sharp enough for them to work with, but are perfectly good for the off tidy up.

Ha, the farrier did once let me have an old rasp of his and it was blunter than a blunt thing 🤣.

As I'm sure ycbm knows, it's way easier to trim with a new or nearly new rasp than with an old one.

My Cody James Dymondback coarse rasp is over 2 years old and is still an absolute beast. Got it from Amazon.

Oh for sure. I think some farriers/trimmers hang onto theirs longer than others. The ones I have been given are good for ages unless we are in rock hard summer hoof season! (Just thought worth mentioning as some people reading this might be cash strapped like me and might not have even thought of asking their trimmer.)

I buy my Heller Legends from Atlantic equine. I did ask a couple of farriers if they still recommended Save Edge and both said the quality had gone badly downhill. Both recommended the Heller (blue handle).

I don't have a horse any more, but my trimmer (whose name escapes me completely, Steve someone) recommended that I got a Shinto Saw Rasp. It lasted about 3 years and was easier for me to use because of my silly wrist that doesn't bend when holding things. It was, and still is, really sharp and therefore very quick. Its shape also made it very precise.

that's interesting as I bought a box of SE but they only lasted as long as legends. I thought they would be great but sadly not so went back to legends.

tried a Shinto, which is now sitting in a drawer somewhere. Just wasn't up to doing many horses and I found it difficult to use in the way I used an ordinary rasp.

Still thinking about a Dymondback.

Which looks identical to

STANLEY Surform Moulded Body Block Plane (155mm) with Blade for Wood Aluminium Copper Plastics and Laminates 5-21-104 https://amzn.eu/d/6UG00uF

Typical. Say it's for horses and inflate the price 🤣
The surform shaver is a lot handier to use though.

I was going to post that exact thing. The first yellow handled tool linked is also in b&q for a few pounds. Can't remember it's DIY name but something like small wood planer.
