I'm looking for a couple of cooler rugs - had a thermatex years ago and am thinking of getting a couple of these (1 each for 2 horses)

Any suggestions for best place to buy from, or otherwise recommendations for thermatex style rugs. I have had fleeces before now, and hate leaving them on the horse as they always stretch and pull back on the chest / withers, which is why I'm thinking thermatex!

Thanks in advance :)

Thermatex are good, buy a size smaller than you need as they stretch, however I do find that particularly on narrow horse they do try and slip back pulling across the chest and the type of fastenings they have mean I have to do an extra loop through the clasp to stop them gradually sliding open which is a bit of a PITA but not a huge issue. I also wouldnt leave them just in a thermatex (standard style) overnight as every damn bit of hay and straw would be stuck in it in the morn and it can pull the material when removing, not sure if their option for a newer style smaller square fabric would elimimate this issue.

That said they have their uses I have one for competiton and one as a cooler at home in winter and I love them (though I still wish for buckle closings at the front and on my neck rug for the neck to be at least a foot longer!) i also have the 'X' surcingles on mine instead of the single belly strap.

Purchasing wise if you want a full range of colours look on their own website but if you dont care and want a deal use google as sometimes you can get discounts on standard colours like blue & red in sales.

Other options; im not too knowledgable but I think premier equine, mark todd and bucas(?) all do varying cooler options :).

I've got a full neck Weatherbeeta thermo cell cooler which was significantly less expensive than the thermatex, holds it's shape well and is a good fit on my 16.3 middle weight high withered ISH.

Thanks you for your replies. I'm not too keen on weatherbeeta tbh - but I will take a look. I'd be interested to hearif anyone has any long-ish term use of the PE cooler. I've had a couple of their turn out rugs before and they just don't go the distance, and my horses are not heavy on there rugs IYKWIM.

The mark Todd one I looked at too. I have a Mark Todd TO and it's an ok fit on my girl. I'm just a bit wary as I've seen some of the prices fairly bog standard fleeces go up to, and I don't want to end up getting a glorified fleece lol

Forgot- comfort zone lapel they look very smart and from what I can tell look thick although the blurb says they have wicking and thermal properties :p :) i really want to buy one next instead of a thermatex as their necks look longer but want to see them in the flesh first so to speak, and also their colour range is limited I keep hoping they will bring out more!

Hope my premier equine rugs last longer than yours did! Ive just got a t/o and a stable and so far am loving them :) am waiting to see how those hold up before buying some of the really warm stable rugs from them & hoping they will have a jan sale! :).
