Planning to get one of these to work with my mares manners! Anyone got any shopping tips on where to go? Saw a few on E bay but unsure of quality. Any recommendations much appreciated.
Many Thanks!
I got a plain old knotted rope halter from local saddlers for about £12. This was to fit a Boualanias/Belgian Draught though! it was very effective with a tonne of baby meat horse, esp when combined with v long lead rope. Meant if he did pull away I still had him or I could use the end to flick behind if he wasn't keeping up or if he was getting really strong I could lunge him there and then. A "if you want to go fast, you go fast until I tell you to stop" type treatment.

Not sure what this is - do you mean something to smack her with?!
Thanks Esme - that sounds like what I am looking for. They are effective aren't they! Having borrowed one I know they work! Aimimg just to improve her manners on the ground a bit really which are good 95% of the time but she sometimes 'forgets' to respect my space!! Haven't seen any at my local tack places unfortunately.
I got a very good one for my cob about 3 years ago from a company called "Get Knotted" on ebay paid about £12 for it.
Its superb quality and worth every penny.
It goes in the washing machine and can be worn under his bridle for hacking and BHS Trek stuff.
With a 12 foot line its great for all the NH stuff which is easy to do with the right gear ie it just comes naturally, I don't practice it per se.
Will defo be getting another for my youngster.

Thats right - don't waste money on a stupid rope halter so you have more control to EXPLAIN to your horse about manners. Just whack it around with blue pipe - works a treat
Sorry, I get really mad when people ask for advice as did OP, only to be told to just get a big bit of pipe and whack it instead.
I have one of these knotted rope halters, could someone tell me how they work? As mine doesnt seem to do anything that a normal headcollar cant do! I have made sure it's on properly!
I got a cheap one off ebay for my youngster and it worked great. She had been a bit uncontrollable but she got the hang of it straight away. She has grown up to be a well behaved horse with no sign of a blue pipe anywhere!
It was a few years ago so can't remember who it was from but it only cost me about £8.
Most of the rope halters are supposed to have stragically placed knots on nerve points which makes it uncomfortable when pressure is applied. Otherwise its just a thinner headcoller, thinner= more pressure with less exertion = more control
