I have a few horse books that are just collecting dust. I'd like to sell them on to clear some space- any idea where the best place to do it is? I had them on Ebay twice, and they didn't sell. Is there a better site that I'm missing? Has anyone had any luck with Amazon? I can't do anything this week because I'm away from home.

(I'm keeping the info on these books to a min- I really don't want this to be taken as an ad- I can't do anything this week because I'm away from home.)

Thanks!

I have sold a couple of bits on Amazon but their postage rules are really funny. When I did it you couldn't charge more than £2.50 for postage so if your books are heavy it could actually end up costing you money if they don't sell for very much. I'd also have a look at what other people have got that book listed for. Lots of the big sellers sell books for under a £1 which isn't a price you're probably going to be able to beat.

I did have success with a few things but it probably isn't worth the effort with most. I'd recommend giving them to a local rescue centre to sell in their charity shop if you need the space. I'm sure someone will appreciate them.

Thanks for the ideas. I'd rather not give them to a charity shop- they cost me quite a lot when I bought them, and I could use some more cash right now. :)

I agree, I buy loads of books off amazon and I pretty much get all of mine for a couple of pence (normally at 1p) or around a pound for used books. I just buy them to read them so don't buy them new, all the used ones are available from 1p. I love it :)

It really depends on the books. If they're very specialist and rare you might be able to interest a shop/website that specialises in sporting or even equine books. For something like that it's worth photographing and detailing them in an email to see if they'll make you an offer for the lot.

If they're just quite pricey but otherwise available hardcovers it will be trickier to get a good price since there will be lots of copies about.

Have you searched online to see what other copies are going for?

Most are in the 5-15 pound range on Ebay and Amazon.

I sell books regularly on Amazon. The postage charged to buyers by Amazon is £2.75 regardless of the weight to the book (so a 1p book costs the buyer £2.76).

As a seller, Amazon charges you fees only once your book is sold, so at least you lose nothing by listing it there for sale.

If you sold a book for £5 (+£2.75 p&p) you get about £6 from Amazon, for £15 (+£2.75 p&p) you get about £14.

Just make sure you know how much the book is going to cost you to post before putting up your selling price.

Also, don't feel you have to list your book at the lowest price, buyers often pay higher if you have a good description of the condition of the book. Alot of the cheap books are listed by American companies and the service is not particularly good if you check out their feedback.
