I have finally gathered enough money to have bought myself a very basic horsebox.
I am obviously over the moon at this!!

So, now the world is as they say 'my oyster'... Does anyone know of any decent off road hacking spots (pref with parking) in Derbys/Notts.
I am based in a livery just on the border...

There's loads of bridleways - various woods / forests around sherwood forest area

Clumber Park (don't need a permit for the bridleways that run through, same with welbeck estate

Tibshelf trail is good. Parking at various points along it usually with a very reasonably price cafe and mounting block/horse tie up area too.

Also Blidworth woods and Sherwood Pines :)

Thankyou for this!! I have a friend who liveries nearby teversal so we love to go along the trail there!! :)

Prestwold on Notts / Leics border. Plenty of permissive routes round the estate.

Oh I hadn't thought of areas this way-on.
Can you advise where I might find parking, or any maps which may be available.
I always find boxing up and heading out fairly daunting without a basic plan :)

Oh that's very interesting! They don't seem to make that information readily available! I will take a look at Clumber.
I don't suppose you'd know where is best to park?

I haven't lived in that area for a very long time, I used to be able to hack there from my yard so not sure where best to park

If you get an ordnance survey map it will show bridleways and parking areas.

Osberton is another good spot with lots of bridleways through it too - I used to park near Milton Equestrian or Carlton forest as it was then

Shipley Park is really good, they have a nice mounting block at the Visitor Centre and good sized parking. Lots of different tracks to explore

We recently went on the 5 pits trail which was nice, they have a small gallop track which is fun

Elvaston Castle is pretty but quite small

If you are prepared to travel that far west there is dedicated trailer parking at Hartington Station on the Tissington trail. This is the start of several circular rides, as well as the Pennine Bridleway. You can also ride round Carsington Reservoir on all weather tracks, so it is good in winter. Just don't go at a weekend if you can help it. A third option is Bakewell Station on the Monsall Trail. Closer to Nottingham there are several bridleways and tracks east of Awsworth.

The Longdendale Trail is beautiful if that's not too far for you. The views over the reservoirs and moors are beautiful, and I know there is trailer parking at Torside car park.

If you don't mind travelling a little further into Staffordshire, Cannock Chase is fantastic. There are several places to park, and there is a good mixture of woodland and heathland (lots of places for a good canter or gallop).

Oh the livery I'm moving to is a 5min drive from shipley! Actually need to figure out hacking there as there MUST be a route! This is good to know :)
Not thought of Elvaston Castle, will take a look :)

Yes!! Brilliant! Someone else has recommended Tissington and I've been told it's beautiful :) good to know where the parking is too! Will have to hunt out a map of circular routes.
Carsington I've always fancied, but mostly I'm free weekends so perhaps one for a drizzly sunday?
Not heard of Bonsall Station or Monsall - will take a look.
You're a fountain of info! Thankyou so much, given me loads to go on here :)

Oh, I hadn't heard of this trail so have just taken a look -- wow!! Is this out towards glossop then? A bit of a trek but DEFINITELY looks worth it!!

This is on my to do list!!!! I have friends who live that side of the country and I'm always jealous of their pics on the chase... Been told to have it organised tho' as easy to get lost, can you recommend anywhere to park/start out? Perhaps will need to get an OS Map!!

Yes, it would definitely be easy to get lost, so an OS map is a good idea. I cheat slightly as I ride at the Cannock Chase Trekking Centre (don't have my own horse), so I don't have to worry about that as we always have a guide or two with us. There is a car park we often ride through that would be a good place to start, which I think is off Chase Road near Brocton. It's definitely in the Brocton area. There is often a horsebox parked up there.

The Punchbowl car park near Milford. Space for lorries, easy access to the Chase and because the Chase tapers towards this CP at the north, its easy to find if you get lost (common occurrence if you are not good at navigating).

Contact the Derbyshire BHS. They had a stand at Chatsworth Horse Trials and I spent quite a long time chatting to the ladies on the stand about the local riding and access, so they would know all the places to ride.
