My late gelding's tack is stored in the garage, which is a little damp and a little cold but not too bad. I want to keep it nice and supple, though, for when I am finally ready to buy another horse.
What would people generally recommend?
AND can I smother it in, say, oil and then wrap it up in a plastic bag - or will this rot the leather and / or stitching??

I clean then smother in koacholin. I check every 6 months and redo if necessary. I have had tack stored like this for up to 20 years and it has come out ok when needed.

^^ This, whenever I'm not using tack I'll smother it in Ko Cho Line.

Fabulous stuff, I've been using it for over 30 years, it's revived many dried nasty (friends, not mine) bits of tack :)

Another vote for kao-cho-line. It's great stuff, my spare tack is in a plastic box in my shed, I usually check it once a year & wipe over & its always in good condition.
