I am gutted my boy has thrush in his front foot!!

I have been using Carr & Day hoof disinfectant but i dont think its working!!

So any ideas on good products!!

Many thanks Gemma

Depends how bad it is but anything with tea tree oil in I have been told is pretty good as that kills yeast aswell. I use Cyclo Spray which is prescription from the vets... it's much stronger than the buy from the shop bits

Ask your vet...my vet sells a sole hardner that is anti bacterial & kills thrush..I used it on my boy when he had it while on box rest.

Best thing for thrush is go to the chemist and get a bottle of peroxide. It costs about 3.00 syringe it onto his foot and keep it held up so it can bubble and fizz and it will clear up in no time. Do it twice a day and in a few days should all be gone.

I used hydrogen peroxide when my horse got thrush earlier this year. You can buy it from the pharmacy section in supermarkets (got mine from Sainsburys), put it into a spray bottle and dilute down. Think I did it 1 part to 10 parts water. Spray on once or twice a day when you've cleaned feet out and it should dry it up.

Hydrogen peroxide yes will kill the thrush but will also kill the live and healthy tissue aswell which obviously isn't ideal.

Nettex Foot Master Spray for sheep is very good, cheap and clears it very quickly, or if it's really bad you can get an antibiotic blue spray from Vets (Engemycin I think...)

It also helps to keep the frogs well trimmed back too, sand/some arena surfaces can irritate thrush as well.

the blue spray u can get is also called cyclo spray :) what a nightmare it is though! Gets and stains everywhere lol

domestos and an old toothbrush.

If you wouldn't put it on your privates don't put it on your horse's frogs (or skin).

Misuse of chemicals is why I find myself confronted with horses with chemical burns and why owners end up with unnecessary vets bills and a foot shy horse.

Salt water and a bit of elbow grease works very well, is cost effective and easy.

Nettex (foot rot spray) Absolutely brilliant stuff. One squirt and thrush gone.

This is scaremongering! Provided it is diluted HP is fine to use on your horses feet. (HP can also be used as a mouthwash for humans too.) Milton or diluted bleach is also good to clean the hooves.

hydrogen peroxide is AMAZING :D and works a treat
also used it for years and not noticed it killing any live or healthy tissue ... you can use it as a mouth wash and on wounds yourself

Another vote for Nettex Hoof Master spray. Also, the Nettex Frog Health spray is good. As is LifeData Hoof disinfectant. that one is basically iodine with a bit of something else added. And ultimately - Blue Spray for when things aren't responding.
