I want to buy some nice turnout and stable rugs for my tb, don't mind spending some money as long as its quality (and preferably indestructible!) turnout is most important as sometime they dont get changed if he comes in so REALLY thick heavys for my pansy boy! warning preferably nothing too deep as in a Prem Eq fly rug he has actually galloped so fast he has put a hind leg through his tummy strap!

oooh thank you like the look of that thought rambo looked nice, i have an amigo but it rubs badly... : ( thanks x

My pony destroys most rugs a have had on him but i bought a few Amigo rugs and a few Derby House rugs and they are still hanging in my stable in perfect condition. really good rugs and werent a bad price either. Highly recommended. :)

another one to say bucas I am a convert and will have nothing else now.

Why not the sunshower Faracat?
My horse got his sunshower hooked on the gate, he paniced and instead of the rug ripping the horse got ripped , the leg straps caused a very nasty wound inbetween his legs ( had to call vet and he has been off work so far 2 weeks will be off another week yet ) .

Suffice to say I no longer use the leg straps but instead used one leg strap as a fillet string and this works brilliantly.
Obviosuly this time I would have prefered the rug to rip, before the horse however it does prove how robust it is.

I also have a bucas power turnout and bucas fly rug both excellent quality you get what you pay for.

Tosca rugs link given are one of the most competitive and give excellent customer service.

Horseware rugs, no question.

I have had 2 turnout rugs for 6 years with no repairs or problems. I now have an Optimo (buy a size smaller) and loads of people at my yard have Rambo Duo's. Quality is second to none. They're not cheap, but quality lasts for years.

another vote for Bucas Rugs - granted not the cheapest on the market but they are so worth it ! Zebra products are the uk distrubutors and all the info for their rugs are on their site or phone them and they will talk you through each rug for your needs ans recommend a retailer for you.
you get what you pay for !

thank you all very excited to start the shopping and quite glad to rule out some as no voters... Mark Todd etc... quite want matching ones and think the rambo and bucas ones will look smart of my dark bay so thank you all for the time!!

I got some pessoa ones last year at equifest and they have lasted very well so far and have come out of winter without a mark on them and they didnt rub my boy at all. He completly trashed his shires and his weatherbeta has a few scuff holey type things (sorry cant describe them very well) on and he didnt wear them for very long at all and masta are a no go as they are to big round the neck and rub his shoulders :(

I've had my boy's MW mark todd T/O rug for nearly as long as i've had him (9 years) and it's lasted fantastically.

Also got a rambo supreme for really cold and that is lovely - very light to carry but toasty toasty on. It feels really good quality. Would def recommend.

ETS I would NEVER buy another Masta rug again - have had 2 or 3 and all of them have split within the first year of use. A complete false economy - you are right to be spending what you can on quality because, as my dad says "the quality remains long after the price is forgotten"

aha thanks so im thinking steer clear of masta may try rhino as a bit more affordable and like to layer... he does rub easy but may invest in a snuggy hood for under and should keep him warmer tooo...?

I always go for Horseware. My horse has several Rambos and they are fab, also have rhino and amigo ones for the little one and even though he is a regular rug trasher he hasnt managed to destroy these! They also never leak and look smart.

yup well better start saving!!! my boy self harms... grabs his chest(rug) and rips up, trashed allhim amigos but thought other horsewares might be stronger... some price tag though!!! the rambo optimo i mean £275... really!?!

Another vote for the Rambo Duo. Love it, and so handy. Only thing that my cheeky one hasnt been able to rip.
Also like the Amigo 1200D.

Why not the sunshower Faracat?

I wasn't very impressed with it, infact I think that my mare only wore it once.

It was a warm but showery day and I had a riding lesson, so I put it on her thinking how great it would be (she wont get too hot and she'll be dry if it showers just before I get to the yard to tack up). Wrong. :( I might as well have tied a sheet of newspaper on her back, it wasn't even 'teeny-tiny-hardly-any-raindrops-showerproof'.

I replaced it with a Rhino LW (fab, plus it's 'proper-stormy-weather-waterproof') as I did need a true LW rug because the Bucas smartex rain is actually quite warm for a LW (it's a very handy rug and it's also very waterproof in foul weather). So the Sunshower has sat in the tackroom, unloved. ;)

I no longer use the leg straps but instead used one leg strap as a fillet string and this works brilliantly.

^ ditto this.

he does rub easy

You need a Bossy's Bib. They are the Bee's knees for stopping shoulder rubs. :D

:D
Only just seen this so a few days late in reply sorry

You should return it or should have returned it as in your case it was not fit for purpose, and they come with a years garentee.
Sound faulty as mine is so far totally waterproof and tested through torential rain ( not recently obviously ).
Tosca were excellent when I had a problem with my power turnouts neck cover as eventually were bucas.

That said rhino and rambo are good rugs too just not quite as light as the sunshower.

sorry one more question about rambo duo...? my boy is a big roller and the liners look a tad insecure, wont they just roll out and get soaked?

I have one of these too... :o

*Whispers* I may possibly be a rug addict. ;)

The Rambo Duo is a good rug (waterproof, no rubs) and I've never had a problem with the liners slipping. They attach with two loops at the neck and two clips at the rear of the rug, so nice and stable even with rolling and leaping about.

Ditto this. Will only use Horseware, especially Rhino and Rambo range but defo buy the next size up.

I should have done but I think that it's too late now as it is over a year since I bought it.

yay thanks guys im covinced love the duo but also admit love the checky rhino one so could get all matching ; ) haha whoop very excited and perfect he had amigos that are 6'6 from my old boy and they are all a tiny bit big but at he will be cosy and think i will get him some nice thermals for underneath!

my cheap and cheerful derby house rugs have lasted better than the more expensive wetherbeeta and mark todd ones

I brought Mark Todd - lasted 5 days
Weathabeeta faired a bit better

Best rug so far: Masta rug that I brought in the sale from equestrian warehouse. £60 heavyweight turn out with neck :o Brilliant
