Little Black One, (tiny, elderly, thinks he's fragile, 13hh sec B), has a Rambo Duo which kept him snug & cosy all last year!
The outer rug has a 100g fill & it comes as standard with a 300g liner, to make a lovely warm 400g winter h/w.
I also bought him the 100g liner, to make a nice 200g spring/autumn rug.
(You can also get a 200g liner but I thought 3 choices of rug weight was quite enough! lol)
It comes with a well-fitting neck cover as standard.
I would recommend that you also get a l/w cheap Amigo (no fill) turnout for rainy summer/warm spring days, as otherwise it can be difficult to find a good time to get the Duo cleaned!
I am extremely fussy about fit etc. but the Duo ticked all the right boxes for LBO, who is a typical TB shaped sec B with quite a long back however.
The liners stayed clean & dry in the worst of weather, the rug didn't really move at all, there wasn't a single hair rubbed off him & he was the happiest & most comfortable he has ever been over a winter.
Heartily recommended! Only downside is that 'poopy' ones (like LBO) can make a bit of a mess of the filet string, as it doesn't have leg straps but I prefer a single strap despite this!
Ive just won a Rambo Supreme Mid W in local rider competition so looking forward to seeing how it goes this winter..it fits my lad lovely and hes a pain to fit being a chesty IDX...
That all sounds great, i just want something that will fit my boy well, he's a CB X Welsh D& is very chunky in front and behind - taking a 7ft rug! Will go for the duo me thinks!!
I have a Rambo plus, the heavyweight brick red full neck one, Beau is also a 7ft and this fits him really well, never moves, rubs etc and most importantly is deep enough for him.

It's an awful lot of money for you to be spending though if the habitual rug biter is going to tear it to shreds withing minutes...........

Oh goodness yes, AmyMay's right about that!
The secondhand section of our local tackshop has loads of rugs in the larger sizes, maybe look at something like that, though you probably won't find a Duo!
The standard old style purple high-neck one is just as tough & well-fitting though!
I bought a Rambo Supreme for my horse last year. He is 17h and quite a chunky warmblood, I had to buy the 7' and he usually takes a 6'9" as it was quite short and he does look like he is wearing a mini skirt!!! I only bought it because it was a rambo and it was black!!! I wanted the one where the neck cover doesn't come off but I didn't want a red rug LOL. It was very warm and very waterproof and didn't rub any where. I bought it half price in a sale with a 3 year guaruntee, but he has only had it a year and has ripped it to pieces although it still stays on and keeps him dry!!! I would buy one again but I would like it with the full neck not the detachable neck in a black which they don't make!!! I think I am going for a weatherbeeta Taka next year as I like the colours and I like the long tail flap, (the tail flap is really small on the supreme and he had a cold bum!). it is a smart looking rug with good fastenings but just not very deep and a poor tail flap!!
I totally agree but.... last year he had on the purple rambo and that was the only rug that ALFIE (Rug killer) couldnt get through. Admittedly it is a risk though.I know it is a lot of money and so i am weighing it all up carefully. I am going to tal to the yard owner again and see if we cancome to a compromise. IF she agrees the i shall purchase the rug, just wanted to see which one to buy in case i can go ahead. Incidentally.......
The rug killer (lol) is a 12yr old chestnut TB x gelding (17hh) that is looking for a new home (he used to shwj but failed vet last week due to lameness on 10m cirlce on hard ground) and the owner is desperate to loan/sell him as her personal circumstances mean she can no longer kp him. So if anyone knows of anyone that is looking for a neddy (that destroys rugs!) to ride/hack lightly please let me know - if i can help re home him then my boy can have his rug!!! Phew - sorry went on a bit there didnt i ...
P.S Totally agree with centrestageSHS - I go for cetain colours (see i am sooo shallow!) and have to buy 7ft's as 6'9" is like trying to fit a size 18 into a size 10!!! My lad is only 16hh but is a Chunky Monkey!
I have both a Duo and a Supreme and love them both...
As for differences...
The supreme is deeper and slightly heavier than the duo (depending on the linings). The supreme also has some padding in the neck cover which is great for really cold horses.
The duo gives you more flexibility of course and its also easier to keep clean... If you take it apart, each component will fit in a normal household washing machine where as the supreme will not.
I have the supreme for the very depth of winter as you can add the duo linings to it to make it very very thick (and my boy needs that).
Personally, for versatility, id go with the Duo but honestly... imo, all the Horsewear rugs are fabulous.
I bought the old style Rambo Wug Plus (purple one) 7 years ago and I am still using it now. It is still as good as the day I bought it and worth every penny. it is the rip stop factor that got my attention and it doesn't rip or tear.
During this time I bought another rug as a cheap spare for £55 and ended up paying £250 for tears over one winter.
So buying a new Rambo for me is cheaper than buying a low priced rug that tore easily.
I also found that they fit perfect all over even the depth, where as other rugs such a weatherbeeta were to tight across the chest and shoulders.
I love the weatherbeeta rugs but they just didn't fit my horse.
