Hi all, just wondered if anyone has any recommendations or experiences with respiratory supplements please? My horse has developed a slight cough, on and off for a week now. Obviously will call the vet tomorrow as he has asthma but was hoping to provide some additional support with a supplement and as I haven’t used one before I thought I’d ask. Don’t mind either powdered or liquid. Thanks!

It does depend on what's causing the cough - irritations, allergies, upper or lower, etc.

Spirulina has a host of benefits, could be worth a try. It's available cheaply on amazon but some are unpalatable, the feedmark one seems good.

Marshmallow root is very soothing.

A friend swears by the gold label stable spray.

This year I have had good results by using Loratadine antihistamine. My old boy has a pollen allergy. I have been giving him one 10mg tablet per 100kg bodyweight early in the morning, and he has had the most comfortable summer for years. Minimal coughing, heavy breathing but no heaves, and much happier.

NAF respirator boost works wonders on mine - he is affected by dry hay when they first come in overnight in winter. This and only feeding wet hay stop it almost completely
