Having had a really bad fall in august I have totally lost my confidence. I went to try a new horse to buy yesterday and just seized up, shaking. Felt dreadful for seller as horse was so lovely. I have been riding at a local riding school since fall and been fine but that is familiar territory and horses. I used to livery there too. I need a new horse, I miss having my own, competing and getting out. But feels impossible. Am going to start riding at new venues locally to try and build it up but have a week's holiday to use and OH cant take leave so thought I could go somewhere that I can have really good lessons. I am a riding club rider so probably intermediate rather than beginner or advanced. Happy to go anywhere just want to ride a variety of horses flat and jump and possibly hack. I am v. tall and 12.5st so nowhere with really low limit. Thanks guys.

If I were you, I'd consider the bigger establishments such as Talland, Summerhouse (both Glous), Wellington (Hants) etc

I went for a lesson and did my BHS stage 1 at a riding school in Leeds (wasn't too far from Sheffied where I was living at the time)
I can't remember the name of the place but the instructor was an older lady called Anne. I can honestly say it was the best rising school I've ever been to, the instructor was wonderful and filled me with confidence as I was having a huge anxiety crisis at the time. The horses were fab and I think the weight limit was 14 stone, as I was 12.5 stone and was fine :) There was an indoor and two outdoors I think, but not sure of any hacking. They were lovely and said we could hang out afterwards and borrow any ponies we wanted to practice for the exam :)

Hi barton end equestrian centre in glos is very good Abby the owner is a really amazing teacher for whatever you want to do and whatever ability you want to do. She helped me get all my confidence back. They have an amazing horse called dutchman there who is wonderful!
Sorry just have to add did try sumerhouse once while I was in glos but didn't like it. Ditto for talland.

I think Maria13 is referring to Acrecliffe Equestrian.

I would recommend Ingestre.

Wimbledon Stables (London) offer instructional hacking.

Do look at how you can best make use of your time and money - don't just splurge in a panic!

If you want to actually go away, look at Equestrian Escapes. Their Cheshire holiday is great. Top notch instruction at a riding school.

Another vote for ingestre, great people and they have their own facilities for groups or can recommend local b and b places
