Well my currently poorly beast has made himself poorlier by slipping over in his stable today, damp concrete and metal shoes = skinned knee and scuffed fetlock.

It's the second time he's done it. Plus slipping numerous times.

I'm at livery, so would need mats I can take up and move, they would to go over the whole floor but I get my straw in my livery so would still have a good bed down.

So thickness not too much of an issue , just to keep him safe!!!

Help please guys!! I don't have a huge amount to spend!

I can't help, but would be interested in any replies as would like some to put in my rice trailer, so thinner the better!

Healing vibes, so horrible when they have a fall :-( XX

Thaks dd. Nope north Yorkshire, unfortunately.
Horrid really, silly boy. 16hh of cob doesn't half make a thud!!
Yup thin would be great really, just for friction!

I think he would kick and scuff them up, need to have some weight about them and large enough. Would want to cover the whole stable and its pretty large....
Or did you mean sellotape a door mat to each hoof? :D

I would honestly spend the extra and get EVA mats that are much easier to move to clean underneath than the "rubber" ones. They seem to be less slippy when wet as well - and they dont have "bobbles" which are a pain to sweep!

I was very lucky and found some second hand for £75 for 6 mats (enough to do a 12x12 box)

I got it sussed... why waste money on rubber mats when you can superglue shoe shaped rubber onto his shoes!! lol

Can't he go barefoot?
I have one eva mat [other one was stolen!] £50 , had it 5 years, no wear and tear .
Equine mats or cow mats I think, not thick enough for an old arthritic heavyweight type tho, I put it in middle with banks round side, you need some bedding as my pony wont pee if he gets splashback

Check out websites like preloved, I just bagged 5 6'x4' kraiburg mats 2nd hand for £28 a mat!! and they were 20 minutes away so easy to collect! (I'm in the midlands so probably too far for you to travel, but worth looking on preloved for your area)

our equestrian newspaper advertises cheap mats - or try googling, type in cheap stable rubber matting.
did he have a thick bed in too? Poor lad :(

No he is still out atm so not bedding in to speak of, poor lad. Its just a minefield finding actual bargains rather than paying through the nose fir something that isn't going to last...

Oh miss l toe, as soon as I wrote shoes i knew your answer ;) hopefully in future yes. but not this winter which is my main concern him starting to come in at night time...
Another one for eva mats, must have a google. like i say he will still have a good bed to lie on its more for the friction!! thank you :)

ahh i will do, hoping to bag some second hand ones really, in good condition.

Thank you for replies, any other reccomendations? xx :)

Yea, a much cheaper, quicker option, put down a thick bed of straw whilst he's in- simples :p;)?

Well no, the stable is pretty massive so it is certainly not cost effective to lay thick straw over the entire floor, y/o would not be impressed ;) he fell by the door, if he had bedding at the door he would kick it all out anyway...
