Which show jackets are best for short-bodied people? I am very short (5 ft) but rather fat (16/18). Most show jackets come up quite long and because they are fitted, the waist comes about 4 inches below my waist, which is where I have a rather unlovely roll of flab.

The roll of flab has got considerably smaller of late (only good thing about having to muck out 2x per day), and my old show jacket swamps me.

Are there any jackets which are designed for people with shorter bodies, as quite apart from the fat problem, i look like a kid playing dress-up in a long flappy jacket. I'd really like a nice tweed, but navy is fine as well.

I am 5' and very short between neck and waist. I gave up and last year I bought a Mrs Candy which was then adjusted to fit me - arms, length and neck to waist all shortened.

It was not as bad as I though it would be - £190 with the adjustments and I now have a jacket that fits beautifully and will last years (provided I don't pile on the pounds).

I am now showing at affiliated and doing some county shows, hence splashing out as I did need to look as smart as possible. You could it you wanted to keep costs down, buy something that fits reasonably well second hand and then get it adjusted at a dressmakers.

I appreciate the suggestion, but Fuller Fillies jackets are unbelievably long, and make me look even more like a weeble (not all fat people are 6 feet tall!). Also, they are VERY generously sized, and even the size 16 jacket, which is the smallest they do, swamps me, and the sleeves come down over my hands.

I am in love with a tweed on the tweed-jacket.com site, just have to persuade DH that i really DO need it !

I am a short-bodied size 10 with very long arms, so I ended up simply having a jacket tailored---the waists of off-the-rack jackets end up on my hips, and the arms of petite jackets are far too short. I bought a pattern online (can give the link if interested) and took it to a local seamstress.

Alexander James do "altered to fit" (in between made to measure and off the peg) which works well if you are a non-standard size.

My sister used cavaletti clothing and found them good.

I've got a brand new gorgeous tweed that just doesn't fit me - its a size 16-18 (I got confused with chest measurements! lol) - PM me if you want me to take some measurements!
