We are currently looking for a brood mare to have competed to at least Intermediate BE, but despite searching H and H there seem to be very few for sale.
Any suggestions for more sites? (obscure preferred, can find horsemart/horsequest myself)
Thank you

I'm in the same boat, looking for one or two event broodmares myself. I have found some who are very well related but it is tough finding ones that have competed to a reasonable level and that the owners will part with! Have a few feelers out but may try the wanted ad route soon. If you find a surplus Henryhorn please let me know!

i feel very lucky today, as thanks to greygates i am taking delivery of a county show winning and a bsja reg mare (coloured)by country top gun id x tb blood lines on loan. also have a very nice hanoverian mare pike senior, diamond blood line who is on loan. word of mouth and wanted adverts did it for me. you will have to say no to many horses as people see some horses through rose tinted glasses!!!!!

some peole do indeed see horses through rose tinted glasses, others do not want to pay a reasonable amount for a well bred mare with a competition record.

Thanks, I might try that.

I rang babette a few weeks ago re that horse and she said that she was advertising for someone else and that she had misplaced their contact details. She also said that she did not think the horse had done much eventing?

henryhorn, don't know if these will be any good as I suspect that few if any have a BE track record, but there's a couple of big studs who are currently cutting down significantly on their brood mare herd - and they will certainly all have incredibly good pedigrees - Renkum Stud: www.renkumstudfarm.co.uk , Quainton - www.quaintonstud.co.uk and Brendon Stud, Pyecombe, Sussex - www.brendonstud.com - who I think are also advertising some of their brood mares ..... Good luck!

Renkum stud have a sale on next weekend, they have some awesome broodmares for sale but most are jumpers rather than eventers, they have a few international grade A's etc though.

The Welton Stud always used to say that they liked Grade A mares a lot. Might be easier to find one of those than an eventer

Ya, I know! That's why I rang however she didn't seem to remember who had asked her to put the ad up and couldn't find the contact details, then she mentioned that she didn't think it had done much eventing. I don't know, perhaps I caught her at a bad time!

Agree re the grade A comment though, there are more of them about for sale it seems.

I got my Intermediate event mare on loan by word of mouth, I also bought an advanced event mare by word of mouth (i've sold her on now) and I got a novice event mare that had been injured in a road accident by word of mouth as well. I think when looking for something specific its a case of keeping your eyes open and getting in there quick when you hear about one you would want or see one advertised

I am looking for a nice home for the tbx novice event mare if anyone knows of someone looking, she is free to the right home... only because I have been naughty and been out and bought 2 new broodmares this year Hamlet/Quidam de Revel/Lys de Darmen and Mauersee/Habat so now have too many mares again lol!
