iv got around £80 at the max! and i need a good skull hat for xc as me and ebs are trying out some BE and more xc this summer :)

not sure where to put this? but it should be ok here :p

Can't recommend the Dublin Onyx highly enough for comfort if you're on a budget. You can get the webbing harness one for £35 and the leather harness version for £60. It's the comfiest hat I've ever owned, and I tried loads on when I went shopping.
Having said that everyone's head are a slightly different shape, I'd go to a reputable tack shop and get one fitted. Once you know the one to go for you can always order online to try to keep the costs down!
Good luck!x

I love my Charles Owen J3. Although I have an oval shaped head so suit traditional velvet hats better. I would also advise going to a reputable tack shop that can fit riding hats to see what hat fits your head shape best. I got my hat from a Derby House stand....and it has been my only positive experience from them!!!

i was thinking of a champion as derby house selling for 75 but are they the same sizing as the ones with the fixed peak? if so i can just order online?
or yeah charles owen are only £40-50 and im not going to be using it LOADS but after my xc fall and being knocked out old im making sure im getting the best one on budget
thanks :)

Ive just bought a Champion Ventair and I really like it. Try one on before you buy online tho. I was going to get mine online but wasnt sure of the fittings so I bought one in a tackshop.

I have a champion ventair normal hat and they are comfy so i would reccomend the ventair skull,

also Charles Owen J3, wonderful jockey skull

I have to agree with you. It's the best hat I have ever bought and has all necessary standards. Very cheap and comfortable hat. :D

Another vote for champion ventair skull :) absolutely love mine very comfortable and my keeps my head cool when wearing for longer times :) xxxx

The champion ventair is a very good hat, but I found it didn't fit my head very well so I tried a Dublin Onyx and I cannot recommend it enough, its very comfy and very safe

The Gatehouse HS1 Jockey Skull is the best for cross country - suitable for competition under FEI, Pony Club and HRA rules - conforms to SNELL E2001 (the highest equestrian hat safety standard in the world), PAS015 and BSEN1384 - www.countrysmiths.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=Gatehouse-hs1-jockey-skull-cap

I also loved that hat, only problem was.. it just did not fit!

So I would look at the standards and then go to try them on. I always end up with Charles owen but thats a fit and comfort thing. The one thing I did insist on last time round was to buy a skull cap with a vent in it to "try" to reduce sweaty hair in the summer and it did really help!
