I am considering putting my 10 year old TB mare in foal. She is to have a year off due to a kick injury.
She is 16.2, by Accondy damsire Welton Ambassador. She evented up to 2*.
This is her:

This will be a first foal for her and me.
Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks in advance.

What are you looking to breed? Size, confo, keep or sell? Give us as much info as you can and you should get quite a few replies.

Right yes, good point.

Well, this mare was my son's eventer, but he is away at uni now, so I don't have a good jockey around now, but I may have again in the future.
So, I *think* I'd like to breed something that's not too big, will be managable for me as a first time breeder, and I might well end up keeping and eventing it somehow.
Ideally maybe 15.2ish, that would event at least to Novice.
I would def. consider a pony stallionfor my mare as a first foal and then if that worked well maybe something more specialised next time.
My mare jumps well but she is built typical TB. She is bold and has a brain, but can be quirky and a bit demanding.

If you stick with tb I'd say Groomsbridge May I would be worth a look. Hes not too big and his offspring are gorgeous and so laid back.

Or...(I am a first time breeder but have looked at just about every stallion in England (or it feels like it))...if you like a pony how about Templebready Fear Bui, although he has moved to France I gather you can still get semen over here.
I love your mare.

Templebready Fear Bui ticks all the boxes, lots of pony character, ideal height and his progeny have evented up to CIC 3* level.

ETA: second vote - great minds.

What is you budget as well as there are a lot of stallions out there to choose from and if you have a max price then it may help to limit the choice.

Budget is not unlimited obviously! I would be happy to pay £500+ stud fee for the right stallion. But for that kind of fee I'd be really hoping to get her in foal.
As she's never had a foal, I just wonder if she will. So I am reluctant to splash out if I end up with no foal.
If I had a successful first try at breeding her say in 2010-11, then I would be happier to go for an expensive stallion for 2011-12.
I may try to bring her back into work at some point as well.
Very vague I know. Sorry!

Take a look at some of our boys ,we have 3 TB stallions Groomsbridge May I ,High Tension and a new boy American Agent .
For visiting mares we offer the stud fees payable when the mare scans in foal and then you get live foal guarantee as well.
Bit if your mare turned out to be barren for any reason the stud fee isnt payable.

Hi there,
I picked up on this thread as I am looking for a small event horse bred out of Templebready, I don't suppose you did in fact use him and have youngstock available,

Here's hoping!
