Best suncream to protect white muzzle / face

Having never owned a horse with a white face until Hovis can anyone recommend any suncream to help protect him? He's got a big white blaze that goes round down and around his muzzle and mouth.
Its not exactly blazing hot here yet but don't want to not have any in for when it does really heat up.
Is suncream for use on kids ok? I assume I'd do a test patch of skin to check he's not allergic to it? What happens if the dozy idiot licks it?
Sorry for asking stupid questions but I've seen bad sunburn and its horrible but have never had to protect a horse against it - Sids jet black all over!
 
Why not use a cashel crusader mask - one with ears and nose. I have used these for several years now on my boys, they have big white blazes and pink noses. They are UV protective and my chaps have kept their noses in perfect pink kissable condition with them.

Much less faffing around.
 
Kids sunscreen is perfect as is normally waterproof, and a high factor. As already mentioned Cashel Crusader fly mask are good too.
 
They secure with velcro so would come off if caught.

E45 Factor 50. My horse has photosensitivity and have found this to be the best. It's very thick and stays on for quite a few days. I found the other ones (even the very expensive ones) to melt away and disappear after only a few hours.
 
I either use kids waterproof factor 50 (superdrug seems to have buy one get one free a lot!!!)

Or there is a horse one, its a 3 in 1 highlighter, sun block and fly repellant, in a yellow tub with a black lid - its a vaseline consistency but is excellent.

I bought Asti a fly mask with nose - not a cashel one though - and she gets it off within a day or two and tries to kill it. I guess she doesn't like it! So i stick with cream.

Morning dew can make it worse too, very sore.

And of course buttercups/st johns wort are bad for photosensitisation.
 
I use sudocream. I smother it on and have not yet had anything burn. I've owned pinked noses for years. I am going to try zinc cream sticks if I can find them as I have heard they are as good.
I found suncreams, no matter how high a factor a still too runny and they can rub them off.
 
Without a doubt the Gold Label horsey suncream is the best. Well that is what I have found anyway.
My pony is very prone to getting a sunburnt nose and this is the only thing that lasts all day long as it is so thick and was intended for horses in the first place!

Also my friend had terrible trouble using the kids sunblock with her grey the first year she bought him and she now swears by the stuff!

we have two with pink noses that burn terribly if not protected. i don't use sun cream at all any more for turnout because you have to reapply it so often for it to be fully effective. i use aerborn face masks - the ones with a nose shield on---i think they describe them as full face rather than half face. some days i have to take a wander around the field to pick them up from wherever they have been dumped but its a good opportunity to chck fencing etc!
then we use high factor white suncream for shows and riding. they can burn sooooo quickly

Sudocrem contains a number of ingredients and properties, such as:

hypoallergenic lanolin, to help provide emollient properties
zinc oxide is an astringent which reduces the loss of tissue fluid
benzyl benzoate and benzyl cinnamate are amongst the ingredients of Peru Balsam, recognised for its healing properties
benzyl alcohol is a weak local anaesthetic which acts to ease localised pain and irritation. It also acts as a disinfectant/antibacterial agent and is responsible for protection against common bacterial contaminants

So a few more ingredients than the old fashioned Zn and Castor oil

I always used that on Amy's pink nose.

Nothing worked better.
