Does anyone know of any good joint supplements for dogs, i know about the glucos and ch ( no idea how to spell but you know what i mean ;) ) but are there any more good ones about. Just want to help my lab cross he is 11 and very active but some time a little to mad then feels it on a eve.

Thank you

The only supplement I found to have a visible impact is greenlipped mussel (for joints, I use human grade, two for one on Simply Supplements website)

Synoqin and Seraquin are meant to be good, but the basic ingredients are glucosamine, chondroitin, turmeric. You could make your own.

My big thing is keeping them off cold floors if you can and warming up even if he doesn't seem stiff. The occasional few chicken wings will cover the glucosamine and chondroitin. :)

This post is very well researched, IMO:

I give my arthritic Beagle tumeric powder, glucosamine and chondroitin. Seems to do the trick.
He wasn't so sure on the tumeric at first though!
Consulted with the vet beforehand and she seemed happy :)

How many greenlipped mussel a day for a lab x collie? will give him a try.

I would say one per day, if that's what the direction is for humans. You can't overdose on it, I don't think there are side effects. My dog is 23kg if that helps. :)

I've heard a lot about Mobile Bones from Pooch and Mutt (it has no chondroitin but does have MSM) but I didn't see a difference when I used it. Oily fish is good (salmon oil is easy to just pour over, get it from Hyperdrug, Vetmedic, think Pets at Home do it at vast expense). Tinned pilchards are good but not the ones in tomato sauce as tomato exacerbates arthritis, not saying our boy has this, but just in case, it would be a shame to make things worse.

I use this for my 12 year old dalmatian and it really seems to help her:-

Ingredients:
A canine and feline supplement to maintain healthy cartilage and strong joint structure. This is a powerful supplement with Shark Cartilage, Chondroitin Sulphate, Glucosamine, Ascorbic Acid and MSM.

There's another product with green lipped mussel and most of the good stuff on the same site called Flexijoint. Nice site. Bookmarked, thanks. :)

My (much missed) old cockers seemed to do ery well on the vet strength Cortaflex. Kept them moving nicely at 15 and 16.

Thank you would you say the flexijoint is better then just the green lipped mussel? will try either also found this what do you think of this.

We have had him on salmon oil before made no difference.

Depends how much is in the directed dosage.I quite like making my own mixes then I see how much he's getting. You need to use a supplement for about six weeks before you can expect to see a noticeable difference (for humans), probably less for dogs.

He was on salmon oil about 3 months no difference at all, think i will get the green lipped from simply supp see how i go if i don't see much diff will get flixijoint above has it seems to have everything in it ( it does have green lipped in doesn't it ? )

thank you everyone i will see how i go as i said he is very active just feels it a few hours after.
