Get an ice pack on it. If you suspect the knee itself took any of the impact then I'd suggest getting it checked out.

I was kicked in exactly the same place a couple of years ago. I well remember how painful it was!
honestly it’s killing, even painkillers aren’t helping. which is surprising to me for such a relatively small kick

Ouch, that looks sore but what a good thing it missed your kneecap. Ice, Arnica cream, tubigrip bandage, pain killers and tonight you might find it more comfortable with a pillow underneath.
thank you, painkillers seem to have had no effect on the pain level, which surprises me due to it being a relatively small kick.

If it is really painful please go and have an X-ray. A small kick shouldn’t hurt that much and you may have chipped a bone. And let’s face it if it was your horse the vet would have been out already ?

Rest ice compression elevation... it’s going to hurt - if it was a good impact then an X-ray might be an idea especially if the pain goes right through your leg so that the back of the leg hurts as much as the front... ice 20 mins In the hour so you don’t get frost bite. Rest is an important part of the treatment and get it up in the air so it is vertically above your heart - so lying on the sofa or in bed with pillows underneath Your thigh... it will most likely be worse tomorrow than today ... mobilise at least once an hour for 5
Minutes - if this is too painful then get yourself to a and e... it’s essentially a crush injury so you are at risk of compartment syndrome whether or not it is fractured which is a worse injurY than fracture and is an injury that needs immediate surgery.

true that ?? i’ll see how i go and if it doesn’t ease off i’ll get it checked. thankyou

Possibly a trip to minor injuries would at least give you peace of mind......otherwise rest and ice, arnica cream works miracles for deep bruising, and a combination of paracetamol and iboprofen 4 times daily for the pain.
if it doesn’t ease off i might, i’ll see how i go. thank you

strangely there’s pain in the knee cap even though he hit above it, thank you your advice was very detailed and helpful

I've had a similar injury and wish I had got it checked on the day, even though I was very lucky and nothing bad happened. It would of been peace of mind at least. My whole calf ended up badly bruised and a disturbing colour for weeks. I did everything advised above, move about a bit inbetween resting, I was sat down at work for long periods and don't think that helped recovery.

if it’s still as bad tomorrow i’ll get it checked

If it's that painful go to hospital just in case you have broken something, funnily enough I had 2 breaks in my ankle and it wasn't really that painful hence why I walked about on it for a bit! But you never know best to get it checked out.

i’ve just woken up so i’m gonna see how bad, i’ve heard people can break things and still walk on them/never notice so i’ll definitely think about it

I knew it was broke as I could feel the bones crunching and that made me feel faint and then I think the adrenaline had worn off and I couldn't stand up.

I had the same. Must admit the thought of getting it checked out never occurred to me.

You know what us horse women are like, unless it falls off its probably fine! ?

can you fully weight bear on it?
I'd probably just go and get an XR. I know a man who sustained a hairline fracture to his femur falling off a ladder, thought it was fine, just a bit sore then a few days later he bent down to feed his cat and the bone snapped in half up its length. He had to have a massive op and a huge metal plate.
If he'd have had an XR it would have been 6 weeks in a brace and crutches and he'd have been fine.

yes i can best weight, painful but manageable

D's one was broken when one of the dogs ran into it.

He was weight bearing and it didn't really hurt.

I took him to A&E because it was seriously swollen. He only just avoided an op, ended up non-weight bearing for six weeks with his leg in a brace.

Please go get checked.

I had a similar injury when my mare kicked me in the thigh when I was checking to see if she was waxing up. Caused a perfect hoofprint which went into a rock hard lump which took weeks to go away. Nearly 40 years later I still have a dent in my thigh muscle. Fortunately it was a touch higher than yours and I had quite a bit of padding. I was just glad she didn't get me on the knee.
If yours is still hurting get it checked out.
