Hill work! If you're going to lunge, do it over hills (without side reins I'm thinking, in case the horse loses his balance)! I don't do traditional lunging myself, but I do the whole circling game thing from parelli (lets just call it lunging with a halter and long rope for sanity's sake of anyone who doesn't have interest in parelli), and a few weeks ago I started doing some short sessions of circling up and down a small man-made hill we have at DCS (those of you who've been there it's the L- shaped hill outside the outdoor arena). The part I used isn't particularly steep, but it was still quite tiring for Daisy at first, and it's enough just to do about 5-10 minutes in a session. Crazy stuff though, her topline really filled out quite a lot within 3 sessions over a week (lots of surprised comme.
Great stuff for improving muscular structure in my opinion, especially if you're lacking time for any reason, or just want a change from riding but still want to benefit your horse physically.
Thoughts?
