Hello,

My new yard owner is asking for a third party liability insurance certificate. I told her I havent got both of mine insured for it yet so im hoping to sort it all out today!

My question is. Who is the best and the most reasonable? Im not wanting to fork out too much per month as I will have to sort it for both horses.
I think ive heard something about BHS? But i want to get it right so they are both definitely covered correctly and not with someone who isnt going to pay out if something happens.

Thanks in advance!

If you become a BHS gold member all your horses have third party cover .
It's a good way to do it if you don't have any over cover for your horses .

I have vet's fees cover for my horse with Equicover (used to be Amtrust Equine) but their PL cover is rubbish, only £1M, so I removed that from the policy and am a BHS gold member. The BHS offer £10M I think. I've had it for about 4 years now but only just switched to renewing by direct debit and the BHS sent me a boot bag free gift :)

Your yard owner need to make sure that each horse owner has got third party public liability insurance to no less than £10,000,000 (Ten Million Pounds) as this was the amount that was shown to b required after a recent court case. I believe BHS is now £20,000,000 (Twenty Million).
Many policies offer far less so check the policies carefully.
(Horse owners are responsible for any accident their horses cause even if it is not there own fault).

No they are not ,a owner was found liable in one case where horses escaped from a field and caused injury to a driver.
That's a long way from saying that every time a horse gets hit by a car it's the horse owners fault .
