Hi there, looking for a tow vehicle to pull my Bateson Ascot double trailer and 2 smallish horses (about 425kg each), must be 4x4 for mud/snow, and also comfy enough to use as family car on long journeys, diesel manual preferred, budget up to £5k so thinking 1998-2000 ish?)
Until recently had 1996 Toyota Landcruiser 3.0 but it's come to grief on the ice :( - let me know if you have something similar to sell.
Otherwise any thought on an alternative much appreciated. (Currently considering late-90s Range Rover P38 diesel manual).
Thanks!

Isuzu Trooper SWB

This, best thing ever! So comfy for long jorneys (spent 7 hrs in it getting 'opp' north in all the snow!), and will safely pull that weight (it has a 3.5t legal max). Really brilliant tow truck and v comfy for driving around it (not v economical but you can't have everything!). Def get the 3.1 though, much better engine, you will pay a little more for an older one, but they are still a bargin and will go forever.

Range rover fantastic in snow, muddy fields and cracking for towing a good all round car that the family can use great for all your horse food shopping as well and you can make a bit of extra cash over the bad snow by pulling people out I did I charged a £10 and made £140 in 2 days new rugs all round for my guys. :D

I love my Disco's I've had now. They easily tow 2 ton max towing weight is 3.5 tons.

My latest one is a 2001 T5 Auto and it has been great in the snow and bad weather.

I tow 2 horses to Exford with all the gear we need for a few days away at an endurance ride. When we use it as a crew car we are loaded up with plenty of water ,rugs, feed, first aid kit etc.

Never had one let me down yet.

Bought the latest one for under £5k

I tow two horses with a Hilux Surf 2.5 deisel all electric, cheap to buy, to mine is 18 years old and runs like a dream. because it is old has full bull bars on to tie horses to at shows.

We have just brought a W reg isuzu trooper SWB citation and love it. I thnk the extra comforts on the citation are worth and it pulls very well and does about 30mpg. only managed to push a few cars out of the road so far.
