Hello!

I'm quite sure that this has been posted a billion times, so apologies but my brain is fried and I need help!

Ok, so I need to buy a 4x4 to tow a maximum of two 12-12.hh ponies on a lightweight trailer. I guess the load would weigh around 1600kg max to tow (probably less). The car would also need to carry passengers, tack etc.

Can anyone recommend a what they would consider to be a good 4x4. Not brand new. Looking about 2005-6. Maximum spend would be £5k.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

B or B+E licence?

If B+E then no probs

Are you looking for a vehicle to mainly tow or one for mainly non towing?

Does it have to be a 4x4 or will it be towing on hard ground only?

Thanks for the reply.
It'll be B&E and it'll be all sorts of ground.
I was hoping a Sportage might do the trick, but not so sure...

X-Trails are really good as are Jeep Cherokee's, both have plenty of room and good towing capacity, of course there's the obvious, a Land Rover Disco. Depending on what Sportage you're thinking of I think they're all between 800-1600kgs tow and I wouldn't want anything right near the max mark.

I have a Ford kuga which happily pulls a bateson, with a 14.2cob and occasionally a 15.2ish. Great car and not a big 4x4 so better fuel economy and lower road tax.
