Hi, I am thinking about upgrading to a newer trailer, currently have a richardson which takes 2 x 16.2hh. It has been a great trailer to me, have had it since new about 12 years ago. I am now thinking about upgrading to a newer one and slightly bigger. I borrowed an ifor williams off my dad to try and found that it snaked a bit. Never had that problem with mine so not keen on having one of them now. What do you recommend? Budget up to about £3k maybe a little bit more for something very good.

You can get Ifor Williams 511 which are for 2 horses up to 17.2hh, they are taller in height and a bit longer to accomodate for bigger horses however they are a fairly new thing so you probably wouldn't get one for your budget of £3k.

Don't know what else to suggest, I'd never have anything other than an IFW!

You may find the towball isnt the right hight to suit the ifor, maybe needs to be a little higher to get it to run right , however my favorite is the Bateson Ascot and after towing both a ifor and bateson I would say the bateson tows better and isnt rattley like the ifor lots of room a usefull built in tack locker and nicely finished ...

ill second the bateson i have just sold mine and very sad about it but upgrading to a lorry. They tow amazing i passed my trailer test and within 3 weeks drop 3 hours down the motorway with it and it never moved fits your big horses great and because they are white and airy inside have found horses load much much better. xx

I have an IFW 510, which is the big one, mine doesn't rattle at all - it's a very quiet trailer and it's HUGE. You will easily get a tidy one for £3000, in fact you ought to have some change.

Used Pegasus - based on the old Sinclair design which is really light and airy. Independent rubber suspension, great built in tack locker, full height glass grooms door at the front so you can see the horses, nice wide shallow ramps - I find it much more user friendly than most other trailers. Easily takes two 17.2s.

Just wondering have any of the magazines done a proper test on trailers ??? all they seem to do is recycle the guff from the manufactuers PR dept when there is a article about transport.. a group test of all of them being towed over various test routes both loaded and partly loaded , ease of use and comments about build quality etc would be realy usefull..

I have a Wessex Olympian which is the same size as an Ifor 10/11. I chose it over the Ifor due to lovely internal padding for the horse. Mine is black with a white roof and I think it also looks nicer than the Ifor. Harvey is pretty huge and he has loads of room.

I have had an Ifor Williams 510 for 6 years and never found it to snake. I hardly know it's there when it's empty and it takes up to two 17.2hh horses. Horses seem to travel very comfortably in it.
