So...my old trailer is just about on it's last legs so I need a new one.

I am looking at the Ifor 505 as I have had one before and was very happy with it but when I called a local garage recently the woman told me that there were much better trailers than the Ifor for the same sort of money.

Who has experience of trailers that are around the same price as 505 second hand (up to about £2,800)?

My horse travels brillantly as a rule so am fairly safe on that front, I need a front and rear load and the ramps must be as light as the Ifor's are. Any advice gratefully received!

Thanks
xx

I've got an Ifor 510 and I know there are swankier trailers on the market (Equitreks etc) but you can't beat an Ifor for reliability and build quality and all round good towing.
Plus, good ones hold their resale value very well.
For £2800 you should get a good condition Ifor. The Equitreks are very expensive 2nd hand as well.
Good luck

I would stick to what has served you well before. I recently researched trailers as I was buying my 1st one. It was clear to me that for quality and price the Ifors were the way forward. However, for £2800 you would be getting a very good 2nd hand one 505 as I paid £2500 incl VAT for a 510 (much bigger - for 2 x 17'2) that was 4 years old with new tyres and from an Ifor dealer.

Happy shopping!

Bateson. I have an Ascot which is the biggest one they make, with a front unload (on the passenger side, rahter than the drivers side with the Ifors). It also has an internal lockable tack locker.

Tows well and is really light and airy.

Batesons are lovely, nice and light for the horse inside and a smoother suspension system gives a better ride than the IW. You should get a reasonably new model for your budget.

I have my eye on a Cheval Liberte, again light, good suspension for the horses. I haven't seen one in the flesh though, so can't really comment properly, I just like what I've heard of them!

I might be completely on the wrong track (v. sorry if I am), but have you been borrowing an amazing trailer recently from your very good and talented friend who's beautiful horse is in love with your slightly camp but very sweet practically grade A showjumper?

I love my Ifor 505. Had one previously and just bought another one as I had gotten on so well with it before. I would stick with it if you were happy with it before.

I have an Ifor 510 - I think its great and wouldn't swap it. It is really light and airy and the windows are great - I can see my boy in wing mirror so know he is ok, and he likes to watch the world go by whilst in transit! Couldn't recommend it more.

Was that question to me or the OP?

If me, I'm afraid you're on the wrong lines, I wish I had a Grade A showjumper, camp or not!!

I currently have a field ornament (recovering from a suspected hairline fracture in her pelvis) and although she's a fab jumper, she's a Heinz 57 cobX!

I have been borrowing a friend's Bateson recently though for trips to Horsepital and it's lovely!

Just wish it were taking us nicer places!

Bateson every time. The build quality is better that Ifors, the ride is better & they hold their value very well. Additionally if you ever need a new/replacement part you just email or phone them & the part is delivered within 48 hours. I have the Deauville model which I think is great. On the strength of me buying one several friends have followed suit & bought either a Deauville or Ascot.

B****r off!

He's not that camp, he is a rough and tough real man!!

And it is a very lovely trailer but I thought I would investigate other options. Bateson are looking good, we are hopefully going to Ross on Saturday am to have a look around.

By the way, am not going to AH if it is peeing down!

All new trailers have to be up to the job, personal preference generally makes the decision. At the end of the day, you are the one towing it.
Look at secondhand prices and see what holds there value, this might give you more help in finding a good trailer where you don't end up losing money.

Another vote for the dueville or ascot bateson!!mines fab, all the girls down the yard are now selling their ifor williams ones to get one like ours! they unload away from traffic(left front) so god forbid if you break down on a busy road you are away from the traffice, and you get saddle racks in the front, i bought mine 2nd hand only a couple of years old fab condition for a £2000. great value!

And another vote for the Bateson Ascot.... got mine on Saturday - complete with front windows and blue striped.... Absolutely fantastic....

Took it for its first trip out today to our vets and the new Ifor 511 came and parked next to ours and I have to say no competition..! Bateson all the way....
