I'm looking to buy a two-horse trailer, but I can't decide which brand is best. I think I like the cheval liberte as I have heard lots of good things about them or the equi-tech trail-treka, but they are so much more expensive than other ones if you buy a new or recently made one! I was looking to buy second hand, does anyone know any good places to buy? (based in West Midlands, so near would be best!) I'm open to any opinions and would love to know which brand of trailer everyone owns and what they think about them!

After reluctantly selling a 7.5t lorry and having to down size to a trailer after much research, and speaking to people at shows, I brought a second hand equitrek show treka.
I know some folk don't like them, but it seems much more stable and better built than most modern trailers, apart from the fautras possibly.
I haven't had chance to tow it with the horses in it yet, but it towed home very well, much better than when I recently towed an Ifor!

I've towed a few over the years and would say the Equitreks are the nicest to tow and the rear facing ones seem to give the horses the best ride. My boy will only go on the left hand side of my IW510 and even then will have the odd stumble, but on the Equitrek, he doesn't move and can go on either side. He also loads much better with the side ramp.

The down-side of an Equitrek is the after care is not great and they have been known to develop a couple of faults - the ramps in older models and the axels on early Show Trekkas in particular.

I'm guessing you don't need living but I'd go for the Space Trekka over the Trail Trekka even though it's a bit more expensive.

We have the Cheval Liberte Gold Aluline Special Edition, tows brilliant and nice and light and airy. However my mare only travels well on the left hand side. Ok when we are travelling both our horses but a bit of a pain when it's just her. Having had a CL trailer from new in 2007 have to say the build quality is SO much better now on them.

I've just treated myself to a Bateson Ascot and I already love it. Tows like a dream (really quiet and smooth) and easy to move around by hand. It's got the plastic rot proof floor as well as the tack locker in the front which I think is a brilliant idea. It's also very light inside and well put together. Was a right mission to find one second hand though!

I should add, if you go for an IW (seeing as there are so many of them around) I was chatting to a trailer servicing guy the other day who said the best ones they ever made were the 2005-2010 "Classic" trailers and he would always opt for one of these over the newer ones. He can't understand why they perfected the 505/510 and then fixed what wasn't broke with the inferior 506/511.

Definately Bateson Ascot. I've had my one for about 15 years and its still going strong, although I'm trading it in next week for a new one (just for an update really). Lovely build quality, really bright and airy inside and generally excellent customer service. They are hard to find second hand though as I think once you go Bateson then you never go back so Bateson people snap them up really quickly ;) I looked at the Cheval Liberte but they seem expensive for what they are and I personally would never buy an Equi-Trek as I've heard so many bad things about them (but I have also heard some people love them). I also looked at an Ifor but I feel for the same sort of money, the Bateson was still better.

I've currently got an equitrek Starr treka and love it. Previously have had 2 IW's and whilst they towed fine I needed living, hence the change. Try Wilcox of Edgemere who are outside Whitchurch on the Chester road, they stock IW's and equitreks - I had my equitrek from them and they took my IW in part ex.
