Best treatment for a scrape / cut ?

Hi

Just got in from doing my late check and discovered my mare has cut her head quite badly - down from her ear next to the forelock. Its not too deep but has taken all the top skin and hair off so it looks terrible
I've washed with saline and covered in hydrogel, probably looking at getting the vet tomorrow for antibiotics
Is there anything else I should put on it? Is Vetericyn any good for this or stick to saline ??

If its not infected you wont need antibis, id just keep an eye on it, keep it clean and put some summer fly ointment on it

Definitely get the vet. And *bump* as someone else will know more than me hopefully...

Ask the vet for advice, a visit may not be necessary today, I would stable to keep flies away.
I prefer swabbing with sterile [weak] saline solution if possible to cleanse without upsetting the balance of the skin
Ask vet to bring some sachets of sterile saline for your first aid kit.

When you say "Not that deep" - How deep is it?

It doesn't sound like a vet job if its just surface. I'd be keeping an eye on it, not messing about with it too much, and letting Mother Nature do her thing. As long as it's looked after, there's no reason to need antibiotics if its just a flesh wound. Got any pics?
