My old boy is suffering but he won't retire happily. He's not very lame but not 100% (in front) either - when circling but only to the left.

So looking for a brilliant joint supplement and the best pain relief other than giving bute.

What are you guys giving your veterans?

Also in NL

I give mine equiform easy joint, she is turned out about 22 hrs day usually. As it has been cold lately she has been wearing leg wraps 24/7. She hasn't had bute for over a year, despite being pre-scribed ne sachet every other day back in 2007. Since tenI have moved yards froma clay based ground to one much softer all year round. She stands on EVA mats when she is in, but she is retired as she doesn't have a rider.

She does however have: upper and lower windgalls, ringbone that can actually be felt and a huge splint on her offfore (locum vet who saw it said they wished they had a camera as they wer doing a talk on leg problems and she had never seen such a big splint).

She is sound but stiff on this regime, she's comfortable in walk trot and canter in her field but doesn't walk out quite as much as she used to.

Hi, i have my gelding on 1 bute a day in the winter and maxavita. I find in the summer he can manage on a bute every other day. He also refuses to retire and is better in work than not! He wears leg wraps at night and have also tried magnetic boots for when he is standing in for any long periods of time. Hope this helps

I have mine turned out in the day and in at night to keep the joints warm. Exercise helps to keep the muscles strong which will also take some load off the joints. Glucosamine and MSM are also fantastic. Mine are on Riaflex. You may find it helpful to get some free advice off the lady who formulates this stuff. She's an equine therapist and extremely helpful. her website has useful info on it to. www.riaflex-equine.co.uk
