Best treatment for fleas?

I have treid spot on, flea collar and flea shampoo.

What are the best products you use?

Tips/hints welcome as Im just not sure if some products are a waste of time and money.

When we bought our pup she was crawling in fleas. Took her straight to the vet.

He recommended Pro Meris Duo (sp). It's a spot on treatment. It did work. Within 48 hours she was clear of fleas.

He told us that frontline isn't as affective anymore due to resistance. Anything you buy in a pet shop or supermarket for the control of fleas is unlikely to be of any use whatsoever.

My dog had fleas a while ago and was treated with different products and they went. But he has now started scratching again and Im sure they are back, I cant see any but there are little flecks on his skin which may be Flea faeces so was going to get him sorted before they over come him.

May have a word with my local vet then.
 
I think they were under £20 for three treatments to be used at monthly intervals. Peace of mind for us when we have dogs roaming open farm land where they are more likely to pick up crawlies.
 
Will defo go and have a look have had a quick search online about the stuff you said and sounds good. God knows where my dog is getting them from as he only goes in the back garden no longer able to go for walks and mix with other dogs due to heart problems and water on his lungs.
 
The problem may be, u are not treating your home, so when fles treatment wears off the live fleas i the house will jump right back on

, they are disturbed by in skirting boards, carpets, furnishings, e,t,c.
fleas lay eggs, and they from cocoons, they re hatch and re-cycle.
Use, Stronghold or Frontline, as suggested above, and get Acclaim or , vetkem, for the house , spray every room, then close off doors for a few hours, do skirtings, behind radiators, bedding and dog beds, otherwise you will treat the dogs and they will become re-infested

Totally agree Cala, though I haven't had dogs with fleas yet, but one puppy did bring an extra gift

We closed the door to one room, my mother, father and sister vacuumed it, swabed the floor and other surfaces + anything that couldn't be put in the washing machine, everything washable was changed and they sprayed the pot plants. While I started showering our 2 dogs and 5 cats, with one of those stuff that made it take like around 20, 25 minutes per pet.
When one was finished, it was put in the closed room. And when the first room was finished, my mother, father and sister started with the rest of the rooms...

Had to be done three times, with 5 or 7 days between.
Four of the cats was of the sort that got offended by one yearly shower, so you can probably imagine how happy they where!

When the fifth cat realised she was getting her third shower during a very short time period, she all suddenly bacame worse than the other four put together...



When somebody at "our" vet.clinic later heard that we'd managed to get rid of the mange at that first three times treatment, she said something like "Oh, I thought you'd treated them three times and then MOVED HOUSE, since they didn't get re-infested?!"

I use frontline too never had a flea problem..it may be though as you say working dogs are more likely to pick up more fleas than house loungers. Definitely do the house too as Cala said and a bonus to that is it seems to stop orrible spiders coming in too

frontline is the most commonly accepted as the best flea treatment but as patches said it has been for so long SOME are becoming resistant, but at the minute this is few and far between! frontline also do a big spray to do your house, car etc!
