Hello all, I've seen quite a few threads on ulcers, and have one mare that's been checked for everything bar ulcers. So thought I'd see if there was something other than Gastro guard that did the job. Thought it was worth trying, any recommendations, thanks

Norbrook do a version of Omeprazole that is cheaper than GG by about 20%

It works, is cheap, it arrives and most of the drugs we take are made in India.

Doesnt change the fact its illegal to do so. From a magistrate(maybe Ex) im shocked !!!

You certainly wont catch me taking unlicenced drugs from India on which you have no comeback or know whats in it! It is unregulated

Perhaps you have been suckered in by believing it comes from the States lol like a lot believe , Its just as illegal to use there as well. It must be cheap as 35% is confiscated at customs and they just rely on the majority getting through ,and sending again if it doesnt arrive

Peptizole is a bit cheaper than GG. Dosing is similar (month full dose, month half dose) and it works.

No Popsdosh, I've not been suckered. I've bought from the company since it was American. A long time ago now the business was bought by the company which actually manufacture the drug in India, though they don't seem to talk about that any more. They've had a constant program of product development over that time. I did beg them to stop selling baytril, which is a held back antibiotic in this country used to treat resistant infections. They stopped but I'm not sure I had much to do with it.

I know of dozens of people who have used them. I have had one order fail to arrive, replaced in days. They guarantee delivery.

Yes, it's illegal to import horse omeprazole, (though it is not illegal to buy human omeprazole without a prescription). It is also illegal to import wormers from France in exactly the same box made in exactly the same factory as ones sold for £££s more in the UK. Some things are more about protecting company and vet profits than about horse health :(

Eguisin from forageplus is good, helps both fore and hind gut.

You should certainly notice a difference within a couple of weeks and know whether it was worth scoping or not.

You need to clear and differentiate between drugs that heal ulcers gastrogard pepizole and the like and supplements which seek to promote gastric health .
Supplements have a role to play but they are not a replacement for proper drug treatment of the ulcers .
I am a fan of Eugsin SLH as a supplement I have had a good results with I would never use a supplement instead of a properly vet monitored drug treatment of the problem .

Really ! most human forms of omeprazole are POM and whats more substantially cheaper than the OTC products . They are POM for a reason and its not to do with profits as you can get get a months supply of human omeprazole for less than a fiver as POM OTC is pound a pill for a lot lower strength.
I am assuming you condone them selling bute as well with no prescription or check on end use. A drug that was removed from use in human medicine because of some pretty nasty side effects including death.
Abler never have been an american company just everybody thought they were as it suited them.

This.

You need omeprazole or ranitidine to actually cure ulcers, those are the only two drugs that have been tested in horses. The other things mentioned are preventative not cures. People are reporting that esomeprazole also works, but as far as I can tell that's never been tested for horses.
