Best Treatment?

This should prob be in the Vet section but I just need a response

It may seems mad but with all the rain we have had P appears to be getting thrush

in the 6 years I had him, he has never had it and I have totally drawn a blank on how to treat it! Last night I simply washed out his hoves with salt water, ensuring all the gunk was removed, dried them and sprayed an anti-bacterial blue spray on them?

Is there something else I should be doing?
And advice greatly appreciated!

not at all strange in this wet weather, I'd use hydrogen peroxide in the first instance as it kills anaerobic bacteria and try to keep your horse out of the mud for a while if possible

Not sure about the blue spray, Ive used it in the past but cant remember what on earth for!!

tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil work very well and can be used as a preventative as well.

Hydrogen peroxide is great - and so much fun to use (as it can hiss dramatically). Don't get it on yourself though...or you may get unexpected results

blue/purple spray also an antibacterial and quite often used for mud fever but can be sprayed on cuts etc to help prevent infection

Just been reading up on tea tree oil and I actually have some at the yard, might give it a try tonight!

I know lots of horses who have had thrush recently with all this wet, its perfect conditions for it, warm and wet.

Hydrogen peroxide and letting the feet dry out is the way to go I think.

Hydrogen Peroxide and then Tea Tree mixed with Eucalyptus or EquineLife (Ithink) do a really good hoof disinfectant. It's brown liquid in a clear bottle with white/blue label.
