best turned out/novice hunter

first question, novice hunter affuiltaed to wales and border- my pony is a 13.2hh new forest. it doesnt say what height so can i enter this and what would i have to do?
second, best turned out, im entering m and m earlier on in the day and wont have time to plait for this class, does it mattter or will i get marked down for not plaiting? alos what do they look for and how can you get an un-pliated new forest to look ultra smart??

The novice hunters class (unless it states horse or pony) 9s usually for 15hh+ horses, and you could well look out of place amongst a few 17hh hunters! I'd avoid it if I were you.

If your pony is correctly turned out for a new forrest, you won't (of shouldn't) get penilised for it, but obviously if there's a perfectly turned out white pony who's plaited, the judge may think they've had to put more effort in to get to that point than you have (if you see what I mean).

Make sure you're pony is gleamingly clean and shiney, correctly trimmed for his breed, is ultra correct in terms of tack, your turnout etc. The judge may check the mane or tail for scurf, under your saddleflaps for cleanliness, at the back of the saddle for grease, the bottom of your boots and possibly pick up a hoof to make sure it's cleaned out etc.

best hunter (4yrs and over to be ridden by lady or gent)
and best open hunter
was abit confused between the hunter and open hunter classes. i am trying to think of something suitable for my pony to enter as im trying to get him used to the ring, but the other class that i was thinking of is the same judge as the m and m class, and if my pony plays up in the first class, which he bound to.. the judge will remember that!
 
The judge should judge what s/he sees in THAT class, not what she's seen in previous classes, or what she may have seen outside the ring or a show a few weeks ago, so that shouldn't be a problem.

The was the hunter classes are phrased suggests they are for horses, not for ponies I'm afraid. Are there any equitation classes? Riding club/pony club pony? show hunter pony? Best rider?
 
think ive been put off best turned out as i have to wear my showjumping hat and he will have a flat noseband but a raised browband.lol my other option was best horse or pony to hunt with local pack(will be required to jump 1 obsticle) i was put off that because of the jump-i just have visions of him refusing it or me falling off hehe!!
 
He looks like he can jump in your signature (if it's the same horse), that sounds like a great class for him.

You may well be penilised in BTO for your hat, and possibly for your browband if you can see it under his forelock, and it's not a very exciting class! But you can still have a go if you'd like to.
 
i cant decide on best horse/pony to hunt with local pack or best horse or pony for use in riding club activities. both you have to jump 1 obstacle. whats the difference, sorry am a bit clueless!
 
In the riding club class, they'll be looking for a horse/pony that's an allrounder - that can do dressage to a decent level, good enough conformation to show at local level, would take you round a SJ or XC course etc, whereas the hunting horse they're looking for something you'd have a good day's hunting on, so would perhaps be happy with something slightly less well schooled, but that is well mannered, doesn't pull, jumps out of it's stride etc

If you're not doing the turn out, could you do both the RC horse and the hunting horse?
