Hi
Right, I need your help!
As you may know, Fern has had a tendon injury, and after being on box rest for 4 weeks, can go into a small turnout area on Sunday! Hooray!
Here comes the tricky bit.
She has to go in an area so that she "can't get up any speed" and as she is only walking for 15 mins a day at the moment, I take it that means limited or preferably no trot.
The thing is, she'd only been at this yard for 2 weeks before she did this, and it was caused we think by a kick in the field. She was originally in turnout on her own, but was getting unhappy cos the other horses were all together, and she went through the electric tape twice to join them. And she was cantering up and down the fence when she was seperated from them.
So, my options are in the poll above, and are as follows:
a) Yard turnout. There is a small area of grass on the yard, about 40m by 15m, which she can go in. Only thing is she'd be able to see other horses, but not get near them, and I don't know if this would stress her out. Also, it is a big enough area for her to get up a canter in.
b) Starvation paddock. There is a small area in the main field which is sectioned off with electric tape. I don't know if I'd get her going through it though to join the others again. Which would really be a nightmare. At least in the yard she couldn't get through any fence.
c) Keep her in. Just keep her in till she can go out and canter around? But that would be about another 4 weeks...
d) Other?
So can you think of anything else I could do? Which would you do?
Thanks!
