there are so many types of breastplate out there, and i just wondered what type people prefer, and what people feel works best for their horses.

I want a breastplate for eventing, and also for hacking on dartmoor...used to have a plain leather hunting type, but now there seems to be elastic everywhere!

thanks...

Well, what do you want it for?ie balancing the rider or keeping the saddle in place? If you want it to keep your saddle from slipping, i would probably say a elasticated breast girth, but if you want it for balance i would say a leather breast plate...MO though

I love devoucoux breastplates, but I use an elasticated breastgirth with Ali and Castle, I attach it to the D rings of the saddle and not the girth straps.

I love my devoucoux one. I always used a traditional leather hunting one which was great but i wanted something with a bit more stretch in it once we were jumping bigger fences also it does hold hte saddle very secure and you do still hvae the bit to grab!! I've actually got the devoucoux SJ version rather than the big fat elastic and big fluffy bits only because my horse is quite fine so he looked more fluff than horse with that one! Came free with my saddle too!!

Got a friend who does made ot measure saddlery and she has made some devocoux style ones for different people for about £80 they're very good quality and fit brilliantly and can be adapted how you want. PM me if you want her details

But thats only because you want to look flashy!!!

If it's good enough for Pippa Funnel, it's good enough for me!!! I dont need one of course but it is on my list of must haves!!

Maybe controversial but I don't see the point of the combination ones! Surely if you're that worried about your saddle moving that you feel the need to secure it in 4 places you should get a saddle that fits better?! I think they're just for posing personally.
I like the hunting breastplates as i think they allow the most shoulder movement. I have a leather one at the moment although I might possibly be tempted to get an elastic version to allow the horse more flexibility and freedom when jumping.
