My house is ceramic floor throughout downstairs, laminate upstairs with a stair and landing carpet. I hoover daily but never feel completely happy with it. Currently have a Vax bagless cylinder thing but its a complete pain in the ar*e. Has anyone got a vacuum that they are really happy with? I do tend to mop the tiles once a week and sweep in between rather than hoover but still have the stairs and laminate to deal with. Dont want to spend silly money but looking for ideas.

We have a sebo, it's fantastic except for the stairs, I do those with a small brush. It adjusts the height automatically for hard floors/carpets and lies down to be pushed under furniture. You can buy replacement brushes/beaters that are very easy to fit to maintain the efficiency. I've had mine over 10 years and it's still going strong.

Dyson animal DC32 GREAT!
I also have a industrial Rug Doctor hot injection carpet cleaner and a Polti industrial steam cleaner to follow up the Dyson. The steam cleaner kills fleas their eggs and ALL bacteria on hard floors, surfaces and carpets, the rug doctor makes them cleaner than the steam cleaner alone, saying that I don't do it that often as I don't always have the time or more likely I'm too lazy sometimes if I'm honest!

I have had this a year and its great. I Paid £70 in the sales last year. We have

a open fire= dust
me horses=hay
guineapigs indoors=hay
OH=mud, hay and some how somtimes shavings.
3 dogs= hair, dirt and mud

and it copes brilliantly, I have a browny/ red hearth rug and this hoover makes it go red again lol. Bit of an ass doing the stairs with it though but I just use a stiff brush and brush all the **** to the bottom and then hoover. Filter is easy to clean but I find with my house it is cleaned every few weeks. And it doesnt hold much but then again my house is clean again after the hoover.

I have a dyson upstairs that I was given by a neighbour who was moving and tbh its not that great.

Second the Dyson Animal...with Newfoundland + 3 cats hair it has been brilliant. Bought 3 years ago and they came with 5 yr guarantee then. Much better than previous ordinary dyson and vax type machine.

third the dyson aminal!! picks up all the hair on ceramic tiles, lino, laminate and carpet! :D nice and light, easy for doing the stairs, and has a great long flex!

eta: its one of the wee pull along ones, not an upright! (i find the upright ones a nightmare for the stairs!)

Dyson I had was heavy, noisy and failed to pick up dog hair from stairs with attachment, so would end up having to do them by hand with a brush. Always made me grumpy.

Henry Hound was great but died, seemingly within minutes of guarantee running out.

Now have Miele Cat and Dog which is the best of the lot (still under guarantee, though - it had better not do the same as the Henry). It's light, powerful, quiet, does superb job on stairs, well designed. Bags are pricey but it has made me happy - which sounds well tragic!
