Best water buckets....

This might be a really odd request, so humour me.

Currently dee has an automatic water outlet in her stable, but i am moveing her to a new yard when ill need to use buckets again. So, here comes the issue.....what is the best waterbucket for a horse who a) like to stand in her water and b) find its HILARIOUS to knock the buckets over and drown her hay?

Never buy a mare with a sense of humour.....
 
Tub trugs - and don't buy cheap, they don't last. I have had two cheap ones split after less than a year, three more expensive ones have lasted at least 4 years so far.
 
I use a couple or more motorbike tyres to sit a flexitub or std cheapo water bucket in so it cant easily be kicked over.
Depends on the circumference of the tub/bucket you use as to what you can get in the tyres tho (go for at least 17's if bike tyres).

My mini used to love footballing & being a bucket squisher :rolleyes:
She has had her fun spoiled by having a std old black bucket firmly wedged into 2 tyres - which reach the brim of the bucket ;)
She still dunks, but the bed isnt now sodden in the morning....

For biggers ones I've done the same, but the tub has been put into my 'DIY hay bar' in the corner - means I've spoilt the fun of stamping in it :D

Do NOT use rope to tie anything together - if a clench from a shoe gets caught, there will be carnage!

Something that fits firmly and securely into a large van tyre! or if you don't want her standing in it and she's used to having her water higher up use a reinforced corner manger with water in.
 
i use plastic flexi tubs.

If she likes to tip them over then attach to tie rings to the wall either side and run a bungie cord around the bucket to hold it in place (if that makes sense!)
 
Sounds like tub trugs is the way to go. I would get angry at her but she looks so peaceful when standing in her bucket....

Shame if i ever have to tub her hoof she wont allow me, clearly crocodiles in the water...
 
I bought a trug from b&q that was designed for rubble so supposedly more durable (it actually came with a warrenty but no idea how long etc) limited colours (choice of yellow or yellow) but the handles and everything are much stronger than the average trug. Mine is a couple of years old and still fine (others lasted less than a year)

And echo putting bucket in a tire :)
 
I bought one from PoundStretcher and one from a little Indian hardware store - both cheap - and both have lasted over a year or dragging up and down yard full of water and are still going strong - so price doesnt necessarily denote quality
 
Proper tub trugs with round dimples in the handles - they are the only ones I've ever come across that last longer than a month or two. Then ask a nice farmer for an old tractor tyre to put it in so she can't knock it over.
 
What does everyone think of metal handles on buckets? Am i old fashioned as i always remove metal handles on anything thats kept in a stable?
 
I used flexible buckets. Bought one from Tesco for £4 last summer and it's lasted me since and has endured grumpy ponies kicking the ***** out of it!

Also second the tyre idea if Dee is prone to kicking them around.

Mine is slightly different in that the one in the link I posted has a metal handle whereas mine has 2 rope handles (one on each side) I would remove the metal handle I think. I drag mine around with a lead rope looped through the handle to save my back.
 
I use huge rubber buckets I think kangaroo is the brand they take two and a half normal buckets, expensive but they last years.
 
I do like the stubbs buckets, except my mare drinks so much she'd need at least 3 to last over night. I've been using the cheapo trugs from Asda for the last 4/5 yrs & they are still going strong. If she knocks them, then as said just use tyres.
 
I wish I could find some more buckets like the ones I bought from an agricultural merchant's in the 1980s. They were called 'indestructable buckets', made from a hard, black material much denser than the normal plastic, possibly vulcanite. They cost about three times the price of a normal bucket but I bought them as my young stallion played football with his buckets and was going through at least one a week. They have been used daily since then and although the handles are long gone the buckets themselves still haven't a scratch on them!
 
I use trug type buckets in tyres for mine, one from Tesco the other from B&Q, the cob x likes to stand in his water buckets but the tyre keeps it upright.:)....He also stands in the water trough in the field, front feet only though :D.

Yep, I have Kanguro Jumbo buckets - cost me a fair bit when I bought them but, have had and used them everyday for 17 years now :) they're still going strong!
