Best way of administering antibiotics...

My horse is currently on antibiotics, however he knows they are in his feed, and he's not overly keen on them! He will eat his feed but he's not sure.
Is there anyway I can sweeten it for him... tried apple juice (turned his nose up), and extra carrots/apples...

Have you tried hiding it in jam sandwiches? I have never known a horse to refuse a jam sandwich!

I have got one on anti bs and bute at the moment and it was the bute he would not eat, so I give it separately and he is now eating the antibs in speedibeet so it mixes in well plus a few carrots. I have now put him on danilon instead of bute and give it in an extra feed.

might try that too! he does love his food... bute he'll eat fine (as well as his other supplements). Will make up some speedibeet for him to have I've found the granules are rather large and turn the water cloudy when I dampen his feed. When on just bute he doesn't have a problem! will def give the extra feed a try when I pop back

Try natural yogurt that's the only way my horse will take antibiotics just a table spoon mixed in with their feed

We dissolve ours in warm water and then syringe it down them and then you definetly know they are getting them

tried putting them in a separate feed... ate it all! maybe it was the taste of that plus his supplements etc.
Will try and get hold of a syringe just in case... we have a way to go yet!

I would either syringe it or if that is really not an option I have had good results with of all things Colmans Classic Mint Sauce (not the jelly the one in vinegar) I think the combination of the mint and the sharpness of the vinegar does a good job of hiding nasty flavours.

Icing sugar in feed or try icing sugar, got water and abs in a syringe and syringe it! It's what I did when working as an lay equine vet nurse!

Another vote for the syringe. My mare was really poorly last winter and had all her many meds by syringe.
