For those of you who have sold second hand tack, where did you advertise with most success?

I have an old worn English leather saddle and a newer kieffer branded one. Would you for example sell the old one on ebay but rather hold on to the newer one to try to part exchange the new one with a saddle fitter?

For random bits and pieces, would you say ebay is best, or rather try a car boot sale? Local ads? Gumtree? Any success with the H&H tack ads?

I had a few bits last year that i no longer needed (some boots, bits of tack, grown out rugs etc), so as i was doing a car boot sale anyway, took them with me. Well... before i'd even laid out all my things i was decended upon and they were the first things to go and were all gone in about 10 mins, got decent money for it all too.

I have sold a saddle at a car boot sale, but it really was knackered and I only wanted a tenner for it, so not worth putting on eBay anyway.

I have sold one rug on eBay, but it was an almost new Fal Viking (that some lucky sod got for £30!) and I wouldn't have got the money for it at a car boot around here.

I am looking for a second hand saddle at the moment, and do keep an eye on eBay as do many of my friends, so I would definitely consider it for your Kieffer if your fitter doesn't offer what you want for it.

Id probably say HorseQuest tack sales for your new saddle and eBay for your old saddle and other bits and bobs.

Thank you for the helpful posts.

When you sold saddles on ebay, did you set a reserve or make the starting bid the minimum sum you would take?

I will take a look at horsequest & saddlesdirect too, I had not considered those.

I am trying to sell 2 saddles at the moment - mine are bothe really new though so haven't sold on eBay for the prices I wanted.

I am going to try saddles Direct and HorseQuest I think - but I have put a couple of ads on preloved just because they are free! lol

i think eBAY, or else advertise privately.

tip for ebay: have a look at similar saddles, and watch them - you'll see some go for more than others for no reason you can tell!! copy (as far as possible) the text for one that went for a lot of money, put clear pics on, and makes sure it ends in an evening (but not too late) and ideally that it goes on there over the weekend. it's incredible what a difference that makes!!

i think people are more attracted to bidding if it has a low start price, so i think it's safer to put a reserve than the start price v high.
