Best way to dry a horse?

I need to give my pony a bath in preparation for a show this weekend and since he is a native, he has a massive coat which takes ages to dry out. What is the best way to dry him? I don't have a cattle dryer. He has a lw turnout, a mw turnout and a fleece rug that I can put on him. Thank you.

Wash him, scrape off excess, towel off as much as you can then thatch him under the fleece.

Thatching is literally that - put straw over his back and under the rug. It takes quite a long time for them to dry off if they have been washed all over. I know, as I have done lots of washing for shows in my time. Usually on a freezing cold day with rain driving.

You will need lots of towels.
