Best way to get rid of bad hay?

Ive had a round bale of hay since the end of last winter and now its really dusty and absolutely stinks when its been soaked. What would be the best way of getting rid of it?

I had a ruined bale when my horses p'd on it, I just threw it on the
muck heap

Mine went on the muck heap, horses did still nibble mind you but they soon left it.

if you can get it to dry out, put a match to it, it'll burn slowly.

you could but it makes a disgusting smoke/smell so anyone down wind isnt going to be thrilled... best to just bury in the muck heap if its wetted well with the hose and then covered with horse muck it will soon rot down...

Ours made a nice bed for the colt in his paddock. Then the rain came and now it's rotting. Not nice.

So don't do that lol. I would go for the muck heap idea.

Not sure i would like to burn anything so flamable near stables... It's an easy thing for the wind to pick a whisp of it up whilst it's alight.

no of course, a farmer near us takes his rubbishy stuff far away from the farmand then burns it--

Muckheap or use it as mulch. I actually sold some bad hay to a road construction company one year - they were doing a big job near where I lived and needed mulch hay for the landscaping. Nice deal for both of us.

Thank you you all for your suggestions of putting it on the muck heap, but YO wouldnt be very happy as its at least 3/4 of a bale left. Have to try and contact somebody about taking it away and burning it.
