Hi, I was looking for some advice on how to make my retired tb x cob pony lose weight? he's only 20 but has been worked constantly throughout his life & he's been worn out so he's pretty much into his retirement apart from light hacking now and again. I've restricted his feed a lot but because he's part cob, he naturally carries weight - at the moment too much! I've also ordered a muzzle to restrict his grazing over the next few weeks when the grass is at its lushest.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Apart from obviously restricting intake the best way is to increase his movement when he is out, putting a fence round the perimeter of the field or in some way that means he has to move about as much as possible when he grazes will mean he uses more calories than if he is in a small square area.

As others have said inhand hacks may help him to shed the weight a little bit more - you could also try lunging once or twice a week, even if its not to long:)
