Best way to pay for a new horse??

Have accepted most things in the past, but preferred cash if possible.
Old one was the building soc cheque (20 odd yrs ago).

That said, I've just sent a cheque for a fuzzy i have only seen in photos, to someone I have never met, and have had back receipt 2 days later & fuzzy is arriving parcel post in around 10 days :D (gawd only knows what it will look like in the flesh!, cue thinly veiled adverts coming soon :D:D )

By what means would you pay for a horse?

Cold hard cash is my preference, buying or selling :D

If someone wants to pay me by cheque then that's fine by me, but they don't get that horse off my yard, ride it, or treat it as their own, until my statement tells me the payment has gone through.

Last one I bought was Personal cheque from my current account but seller and I had known each other for more than thirty years
Apart from that bankers drafts or cash.

When we bought Bella we paid 2/3 by bank transfer and the rest in cash if I remember correctly. If I was selling I'd probably only accept cash though, but when we got her the seller asked us to pay the way we did, and that's fine by me :)

We recently sold one just before Xmas. They did an electronic transfer which went through in 24 hours. They were away for Xmas so he stayed with us on livery for a week, though he was officially sold.

Probably cash

Even though there ate these modern methods that ste meant to be instant and save us carrying cash, there are a lot of loop holes.
They arnt always instant and can be returned and taken back.

Cash but I did sell a horse and received the money by bank transfer. TBH it took a week to order cash when Ive bought before & it took a week for the transfer to come through.

Always cash for me but I have never bought a horse for more than £2000...can you imagine taking £20k in cash somewhere with you!?

When I sold my one last year they paid by bank transfer but it was rather a lot of money to do by cash. I bought last weekend and paid cash, I paid a deposit Saturday once she passed the vet and the balance Monday.

For the last horse I bought I used telegraphic transfer, so it went through on the day of purchase. It did cost me £25 for the priviledge of doing it, but I was paying well over five figures for the horse and didnt want to draw that amount of cash out of my bank account. Have also paid via cheque, but the horse stayed on the same yard I bought it from, plus have used building society cheques. When selling have been given cash or bankers draft.

Bankers draft!!!!!

That's how you pay for most expensive things! Such as rental deposits, cars etc. I wouldn't want to carry all that cash around, plus you have to go to the bank several times as there's a limit to the amount of cash you can withdraw in any one day. Some banks charge, some don't but they can't 'bounce' like a cheque can.

i paid by bank transfer - with so many disputes of ownership, passport queries etc i would never pay in cash!
Bank transfer is proof of payment thus ownership - but im old mistrusting woman x
